BOMBERS NOTES

SPOILER ALERT: The Bombers spoiled the visiting Cincinnati Cyclone's chances of clinching the North Division title last night by defeating them 4-3 in a shootout on Sunday afternoon. Yannick Tifu returned to the Bombers lineup and instantly let Dayton fans know why he's spent 24 games this season in the American Hockey League. Just over three minutes into the contest Tifu netted a Masahito Nishiwaki pass to give the Bombers a 1-0 lead over the Cyclones. Later in the first Mike Walsh scored on the power play from Chris Eade and Corey LeClair. Walsh earned his second point of the night assisting on Matt Beaudoin's league-leading 36th of the year (Ryan Smyth picked up the other assist). The Bombers held onto their 3-0 lead into the third period, but the Cyclones came charging back, scoring two goals in less than three minutes then netting a penalty shot to tie the game at 3. The Bombers prevailed in the shootout, however, making 3 of their 4 attempts. Jeremy Duchesne stopped all three shots he faced, while Brad Bonello, Masahito Nishiwaki and Matt Beaudoin all scored past Cincinnati's Cody Rudkowsky.

DEVILS UP TO NO GOOD: The Bombers fell to the Trenton Devils on Saturday in a 4-1 contest. This was the last meeting between the two teams at the Nutter Center. Gary Klapkowski netted his first ECHL goal in the third period from Greg Labenski and Ryan MacGregor to prevent the shutout. In net for the Bombers, Jeremy Duchesne finished the night with 35 saves on 38 shots. On Friday the Bombers fell 2-0 in a hard-fought contest that remained scoreless through two periods. The Bombers had many scoring opportunities, including one shot off the post, but failed to convert on any chances. Netminder Rejean Beauchemin finished the night with 35 saves on 37 shots, while Trenton goalie Jason Smith picked up his second straight shutout victory after stopping all 25 Bombers shots.

INSTANT GRATIFICATION: American Conference All-Star Yannick Tifu was welcomed back to Dayton on Sunday after being returned from the American Hockey League's Rochester Americans. He netted his 15th goal of the season for his 57th point in the opening . Tifu has spent 15 games with Rochester this season, recording one goal and two assists. In December, he played nine games with the Albany River Rats, picking up two goals and three assists.

SHUT DOWN: Dayton's penalty killing units were working hard last week, going 17/19 (89.5%) over the weekend. More impressive, the team was 7/7 against Cincinnati, the team with the highest overall power play in the ECHL.

WELCOME TO THE BIGS: With a little help from team captain Greg Labesnki, Gary Klapkowski netted his first career ECHL goal on Saturday against Trenton at the 10:11 mark of the third period. Klapkowski has appeared in 21 games for the Bombers and has also picked up three assists.

WHO'S THAT NEW GUY?: The Bombers signed defenseman Jim Henkemeyer on Friday. The St. Cloud, Minnesota, native played four years at the University of Wisconsin at River Falls and was a Division III All-American. He accumulated 68 points in his 95 game collegiate career.

TWICE IS NICE: Mike Walsh had his second multi-point game of the season on Sunday against Cincinnati. The property of the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins, Walsh netted a power play goal and assisted on Matt Beaudoin's power play goal in the same period.

FOLLOW THE LEADER: Rookie All-Star Matt Beaudoin is still leading the league in goals scored (36)! He picked up his last goal on the power play on Sunday against Cincinnati. The Ohio State alum has 65 points (36g, 29a) on the season, ranking 9th overall and 6th among rookies. He's also second in power play goals (15).

WITH HONORS: Bombers goaltender Jeremy Duchesne was named runner-up for the Rookie of the Month award for February after going 2-0-3 with a 2.06 GAA and .937 save percentage. He was 12/17 in three shootouts, including a 4-of-5 performance in the Bombers 4-3 win over Elmira on February 29.

MILESTONES: Here is a list of Bombers who are the verge of career ECHL milestones:

Brad Bonello: 1 goal shy of 50 career goals

Mike Berry: 7 assists shy of 50 career assists

Scott Kelman: 8 games shy of 200 games played
