
Three 'Caps Players Chosen for MWL All-Star Team

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Last night, the Whitecaps broke their longest losing streak of the season with an extra innings win over Quad Cities and today, the team received even more good news. Three Whitecaps players, shortstop Michael Holliman and pitchers Ramon Garcia and Orlando Perdomo, have been nominated to play for the Eastern Division All-Star squad.
Holliman was named to the Eastern Division squad as a starter. The 23-year-old from Dallas, Texas leads the Whitecaps in doubles (14) and walks (33) and is tied for the team lead in hits (50). Holliman is also second on the team in home runs (4).
Garcia is among the Midwest League leaders in pitching with a 6-1 record and a 1.69 ERA in 10 starts. He also tops the Whitecaps leader board in strikeouts with 49 and has given up just 10 walks in 64.0 innings. The The 21-year-old from the Dominican Republic has thrown two complete games and two shutouts, landing him once again atop the Midwest League Leader board.
Garcia will be joined on the East pitching staff by teammate and closer Orlando Perdomo. The 22-year-old right hander from Venezuela is 0-0 with a 1.64 ERA and 14 saves in 23 appearances. Perdomo is third among Midwest League Leaders for saves.
All-Star players were selected by Midwest League managers. The 2006 Midwest League All-Star game will take place at John O'Donnell Stadium in Davenport, Iowa on Tuesday, June 20. 'Caps fans can catch their All-Star players along with the rest of the team at Fifth Third Ballpark starting Thursday, June 15 in a 6:00 p.m. doubleheader against the Fort Wayne Wizards and Friday, June 16 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are still available for both games and can be purchased by calling the box office at (616) 784-4131 or (800) CAPS-WIN or logging onto the Whitecaps website, whitecapsbaseball.com.
