Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

The Swing of the Quad Cities will have six players participating in the 2006 Midwest League Summer All-Star Classic, the team announced Tuesday. Davenport was the location of the MWL's first all-star game in 1964 and will host the game for the seventh time since the league's inception in 1960, more than any other city.

The game will be played at John O'Donnell Stadium on Tuesday, June 20, with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The events will kickoff on Monday, June 19, with the All-Star Luncheon sponsored by Alcoa, and will continue on Tuesday with the Principal Financial Family Fun Fest outside the stadium at 4:00 p.m., player autographs at 4:30 p.m., and a home run derby at 5:30 p.m.

Hometown fans will recognize six of the players named to the MWL-West roster, as the Swing of the Quad Cities had three position players and three pitchers named to the squad. C Bryan Anderson, OF Colby Rasmus, and DH Randy Roth were all named starters, giving the Swing more starters than any other team. LHP Jaime Garcia also received all-star honors, while LHP Danny Borne and RHP Jonathan Mikrut will represent the Quad Cities bullpen. Rasmus, Anderson, and Garcia are all just 19-years-old.

Currently hitting .309, Roth's name has been littered throughout the leaderboard all season long, as the slugger has belted 12 home runs to go along with 40 RBI and a .567 slugging percentage. Rasmus, the 28th overall selection in the 2005 draft, used an 11-game hitting streak at the end of April to propel him to a .296 average with five home runs, 28 RBI, and 13 stolen bases. Anderson rounds out the Swing's starting trio, as he has excelled to the tune of a .329 batting average with 14 doubles and 20 runs driven in.

In his first professional season Garcia has posted a 4-3 record and a 2.76 ERA through 11 starts, currently ranking fifth in the MWL with 69 strikeouts. While he was selected in the 22nd round of the 2005 draft, reliever Danny Borne went unpicked out of the University of Louisiana in Monroe. The southpaw has proven his worth with a miniscule 0.47 ERA through 20 relief appearances, fanning 23 in 19.1 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .167 batting average. Mikrut, a Northwestern product, has been both reliable and durable out of the bullpen, having gone 2-1 with a 3.07 ERA in 24 games and finding himself tied for the league-lead in appearances.

The Beloit Snappers will be the most represented team at the ballgame, as the Minnesota Twins' affiliate had nine all-stars selected from their clubhouse. Beloit narrowly missed hitting double-digits, as LHP Brian Duensing will be the only player unable to participate due to a promotion. The Dayton Dragons, a farm club of the Cincinnati Reds, checked in with seven all-stars.

UP NEXT: The Swing of the Quad Cities will head home to open up a series with the Cedar Rapids Kernels Tuesday, as RHP Trey Hearne (3-1, 3.86) is slated to take the mound against RHP Moose Mosebach (3-4, 3.17). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CDT, with coverage on Progressive Talk AM-1270 beginning at 6:45 p.m.

UPCOMING PROMOTIONS: Tuesday, June 6 will be Thrivent Financial Night at the ballpark featuring post-game fireworks courtesy of KWQC. Come out on Wednesday, June 7 and play SWINGO for your chance to win PRIZES, PRIZES, and MORE PRIZES! Thursday, June 8 will be a Pluckers/97 Rock Thirsty Thursday, while the Swing welcome in the Moline Blackhawks.
