Third annual "Tip-A-Checker" event January 28

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Want a chance to hang out with your favorite Charlotte Checkers players, win some awesome prizes and help out a worthy charity? Well, here's your chance.

The Charlotte Checkers are holding their 3rd annual "Tip-A-Checker" event on Sunday, January 28 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Brixx Wood Fired Pizza, located in the entertainment district in Uptown Charlotte, at the bottom of 7th Street Station.

Checkers players will take some time off the ice and tie on their aprons, serving as waiters and bartenders. They will also assist with a live auction that will include various sports memorabilia such as autographed jerseys, sticks, baseballs, helmets, jackets as well as tickets to other sporting events. Checkers tickets will also be auctioned off as well as a "Date with a Checker" and other Checker related items. Checkers players will also be available for photos and autographs.

Proceeds will benefit Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Charlotte. JDRF is recognized as the largest nonprofit organization for diabetes worldwide. JDRF has allocated more than $1 billion for diabetes research and increasing awareness of the complications from diabetes.

An adult dinner will include a salad, any specialty pizza and non-alcoholic beverage. The children's meal will include a small pizza and beverage. Children will have the option to "make their own pizza" with cheese and pepperoni. Cost for admission to "Tip-A-Checker" is $20.00 for adults and $15.00 for children. In addition t-shirts are also included in the registration fee.
