Aces' Gustafson Named Rbk Hockey Goalie Of The W

PRINCETON, N.J. -Derek Gustafson of the Alaska Aces is the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Jan. 1-7.

Gustafson was 2-0-0 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 0.00 and a save percentage of 1.000 as the Aces went 2-1-0 to improve to 20-10-2 and take a four-point lead in the West Division and tied for fifth place overall.

The 27-year-old posted back-to-back shutouts against Utah stopping all 26 shots in a 7-0 win on Jan. 3 and making 22 saves in a 6-0 win on Jan. 6, extending his scoreless streak to 127:47. The Gresham, Ore. native is 9-7-1 and tied for second in the ECHL with three shutouts while ranking 10th in goal-against average with 2.63.

In his last nine starts, the 5-foot-11 and 185-pound Gustafson is 7-1-1 with a goals-against average of 1.56 and a save percentage of .943.

Gustafson is in his seventh professional season and has played in the ECHL, the American Hockey League, the International Hockey League and the National Hockey League where he went 1-3-0 with a goals-against average of 2.51 in four games with the Minnesota Wild in 2000-01. He posted his NHL win on Mar. 9, 2001 against the New York Islanders.

In 2003-04 he was 28-14-0 with five shutouts to lead Louisiana to the East Division title while finishing second in the league with a goals-against average of 2.09 and second in voting for the ECHL Goalie of the Year.
