January 11, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release
The beginning of a four-game road trip started on the wrong foot for the Pensacola Ice Pilots. The blue and gold surrendered four power play goals and fell 6-4 to the Gwinnett Gladiators on Thursday night in Georgia.
The Ice Pilots are 1-7 in their last eight road games and actually had the game tied 1-1 until the Gladiators scored five unanswered goals.
In the opening period Gwinnett struck early when they fired a power play goal to make it 1-0. However the Ice Pilots pulled even when early in the second period when Mike Wirll scored on a sharp-angled shot from Sergei Ogorodnikov and Rob Rankin. The Gladiators would score the next three straight with an even strength marker and then two straight on the power play to make it 4-1 after 40 minutes.
In the third period, Gwinnett added two goals to make it 6-1 before Pensacola added two late when John Hecimovic finished off a pass from David Wrigley. Late in the game Sergei Ogorodnikov scored from Greg Watson to make it 6-3.
Michael Mole suffered the loss in goal, while Dan Turple won his third straight.
Notes: Ice Pilots continue their four-game road trip tomorrow (Friday) night when they travel to Charlotte to face the Checkers at 6:30 pm central, 7:30 pm eastern.
Ice Pilots welcomed back goaltender Michael Mole in goal and new addition of Evan Lindsay.
