Last Week
* MISSOURI (5) @ TULSA (4) - Tuesday, November 4th
* Always good to end a road trip with a win and for the Missouri Mavericks it was especially sweet as they handed the Tulsa Oilers their first regulation home loss of the season by a 5-4 count.
* Newcomer Lindsay Sparks (2G-1A3PTS) and Jared Brown (1G-2A3PTS) paced the Missouri offense as each finished the game with three points. Brandon Hynes, also signed just this week by the Mavs, finished with a pair of helpers.
* MISSOURI (3) vs RAPID CITY (2) - Saturday, November 8th - HOME OPENER
* Home ice is always nice and for the Missouri Mavericks, it was especially sweet as they played their first ECHL home game in front of a sellout crowd of 5,850 and came away with a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Central Division leading Rapid City Rush.
* Garett Bembridge, the 2014 Central Hockey League Most Valuable Player, was one of the biggest signings in minor pro hockey in the off-season and after going without a goal in his first five games with the Mavs, the sniper caught fire scoring a pair of second period of goals including the game winning strike. Bembridge led the CHL in goals last season with 42.
* MISSOURI (5) @ WICHITA (2) - Sunday, November 9th
* The Missouri Mavericks are beginning to build some momentum as they won their third straight game with a solid team effort and outstanding goaltending in Wichita on Sunday evening in a 5-2 win over the Thunder.
* The Mavs move above .500 for the first time this season and they are now off until Friday night when they host the Allen Americans.
* Netminder John Griggs made a team-best 40 saves improving to 2-1 on the season as Missouri was outshot in the game 42-28.
This Week
* The Missouri Mavericks look to extend their three-game win streak this weekend, starting with their second home contest of the season on Friday, November 14th when the Mavs take on the Allen Americans. This will be the first time that Head Coach Richard Matvichuk will face-off against Head Coach Steve Martinson of the Allen Americans, with whom Matvichuk spent 2 years on the bench as Defensive Coach & Assistant GM.
o MIZ vs ALN - Friday, November 14th - 7:05pm (CST)
o MIZ @ TUL - Saturday, November 15th - 7:35pm (CST)
o MIZ @ WIC - Sunday, November 16th - 5:05pm (CST)
Mavericks Ledes
* Gaining 'Mo'Mentum
o The Mavericks are on their first win streak of the season at three games. Missouri defeated both Tulsa and Wichita on the road last week and then topped the Rapid City Rush in the home opener on Nov. 8. Missouri has outscored the opposition 13-8 during their win streak and now sit just one point behind division leaders Rapid City, Tulsa and Quad City (all three teams have played more games than the Mavs).
* A Lot of Travel
o The Mavericks enter Friday's game against Allen with just one home game under their belt for the 2014-15 season and six road contests. So far, the Mavs won their only home game, a 3-2 home opener triumph over Rapid City in front of a sold out crowd (Nov. 8) and are 3-3 on the road with wins in three of their last four road contests. After Friday's game against Allen, Missouri hits the road yet again for games Saturday in Tulsa and Sunday in Wichita. The Mavs will not see an extended period on home ice until a three-game home stand running from Nov. 23-28 (opponents are QDC, ALN and WIC).
* Second Period Success
o The Mavericks have been using the middle part of the hockey game as their starting point during their win streak outscoring the opposition 7-1 in the second period. Missouri has rattled off three second period goals twice during their three-game win streak. The slowest frame for the Mavs is the third period where they are a -6 (14-8) but since opening weekend are just -1 in the final period (outscored 7-2 in the third period during their first two games of the season).
* Thinel Streaking
o Missouri Captain, Sebastien Thinel, is on an impressive point streak to start the season recording marks in each of his last six games. Thinel was held without a point in the season opener but has since rattled off three goals and five assists in his last six games and currently paces the Mavs scoring leaders.
* Adding a Spark
o It is no coincidence that Missouri's acquisition of Lindsay Sparks has paralleled the team's three-game win streak. Sparks made an immediate contribution scoring a pair of goals with an assist in his first game with the team (a 5-4 win in Tulsa) and he has points in each of his last two games sitting with two goals and three assists (along with a +5 +/- rating) in his three games with the team.
* Captains
o On Friday, October 24th the Missouri Mavericks officially announced that veteran forward Sebastien Thinel had been voted Team Captain by his teammates for the fourth consecutive year.
o Andrew Courtney and veteran Garett Bembridge will wear the "A" as Alternate Captains during home games for the Mavericks this season, and veterans Scott Langdon and David Rutherford will wear the "A" during away games for the Mavs.
* Season Tickets
o For the 6th consecutive season, the Missouri Mavericks have increased their Season Ticket Holder accounts entering the 2014-15 season.
* Mavericks sign KC native, Jared Brown.
o On Monday, October 13th the Missouri Mavericks signed KC native Jared Brown to their 2014-15 roster. The Gardner, Kansas local spent his last two seasons north in South Dakota, playing for Mavs league rival the Rapid City Rush. A fan of everything Kansas City, Brown is happy to be home playing for the Mavericks and representing the city he loves.
* Mavericks welcome "The New Era" of hockey with move to ECHL
o On Tuesday, October 7th the Missouri Mavericks were officially accepted as a member team of the ECHL, along with the 6 other teams of the former Central Hockey League (CHL), forming one Premier 'AA' Hockey League in North America. This historic move brings about many changes for the KC franchise, but changes for the better that should leave no doubt in fans' minds that hockey is here to stay in Kansas City.
o The Missouri Mavericks are now a part of a 28 team league spanning from coast to coast with clubs in 20 states and 1 Canadian province. Now in its 27th season, the ECHL has affiliations with 28 of the 30 National Hockey League (NHL) teams in 2014-15. There have been over 541 players who have gone on to play in the NHL after starting their careers in the ECHL. 72 former ECHL players were on opening-day rosters in the NHL this season.
