Greenville, S.C. - Forwards Jack Downing and Joe Diamond each scored two goals and an assist to help the South Carolina Stingrays (3-5-0-3) take down the Greenville Road Warriors (6-4-0-0) 5-1 at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena Monday night.
Diamond kicked off the scoring at 10:24 of the first period blasting a shot past the glove of Road Warriors goalie Jason Missiaen (L, 21 saves on 25 shots) from the top of the left-wing circle. Forward Joe Devin pushed his personal point streak to six games by picking up the lone assist.
In the second period, defenseman Lee Moffie gave the Stingrays a two-goal advantage on the power play at 6:18 off a drive from the point with help from Diamond and forward Jack Downing. The Road Warriors nearly cut the lead in half late in the frame after being awarded a 50 second 5-on-3 man advantage, but the left post and crossbar behind Stingrays netminder Adam Morrison (W, 38 saves on 39 shots) kept the 2-0 lead.
Downing potted two goals in the third period to help the Stingrays to a 4-0 advantage. Just 50 seconds into the frame, Downing rifled a shot over the glove of Missiaen from the top of the left-wing circle from Devin and Moffie and added his second goal of the season at 7:57 with assists to forward Braden Pimm and Moffie.
The Road Warriors ended the shutout bid of Morrison at 16:15 when forward Josh Nicholls raced to the front of the net and slipped the puck under the pads. Diamond completed the game scoring with an empty-net goal with six seconds to play. The Stingrays finished the game 1-for-5 on the power play while the Road Warriors went 0-for-4.
