The Texas Stars defeated the Manitoba Moose 5-1 in front of 11,889 fans at the MTS Centre on Sunday. Right wing Greg Rallo led the way with a hat trick, netting a power-play goal, regular strength goal and a shorthanded goal in the lopsided win. Rallo's hat trick was the Stars first of the season and the first of his AHL career. He also added an assist in the win. Texas goalie Richard Bachman stopped 31 of 32 in the win. Defenseman Maxime Fortunus and center Travis Morin each had two assists as Texas finished 2-2-0-1 on its recent five-game road swing. Right wing Sean Backman and center Mathieu Tousignant each had a goal as the Stars improved to 18-14-1-3 on the road this year. Moose goalie Eddie Lack (24-19-3) was pulled after Texas beat him four times on 22 shots in 31:46 of work.

Texas 3 at Manitoba 4 3/18/11

The Texas Stars were defeated by the Manitoba Moose 4-3 in front of 9,129 fans at the MTS Centre on Friday night. The Moose held off a late surge from Texas to preserve the victory after Stars center Travis Morin scored with 4:26 remaining in regulation. Four different goal scorers got on the board for the Moose, who chased Texas goalie Tyler Beskorowany at 7:16 of the second period. Despite stopping 15 of 16 in a relief effort, goalie Richard Bachman took the loss. Moose goalie Tyler Weiman stopped 32 Texas shots for the win. Texas center Aaron Gagnon and defenseman Dan Spang each finished with a goal and an assist in the defeat.

Monast Reassigned to Texas From Idaho

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars announced on Monday that defenseman Guillaume Monast has been reassigned to the Texas Stars (AHL) from the Idaho Steelheads (ECHL) by the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Guillaume Monast (pronounced Gee-yohm, Moe-Nah) has one assist in nine games for Texas over three separate recalls from Idaho. He registered his first AHL point with the Stars this season at Lake Erie on Feb. 16. In 48 games for Idaho this year, Monast has one goal and seven assists while adding 38 penalty minutes. The Quebec native spent his rookie season with Idaho, setting up six goals in 68 games played, helping the Steelheads reach the 2010 Kelly Cup Finals. Monast attended training camp in Dallas and in Texas each of the last two years.

Dallas Recalls Brandon Segal

The Dallas Stars announced last Thursday that the club has recalled right wing Brandon Segal from the Texas Stars, Dallas' primary affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL), after he cleared re-entry waivers on Thursday morning.

Segal, 27, has skated in 37 games for Dallas this season, collecting ten points (5g, 5a) and 39 penalty minutes. He has played in 30 games for Texas in 2010-11, posting 17 points (7g, 10a) and 38 penalty minutes. The Richmond, BC, native accrued ten points (5g, 5a) in 19 games last season with Dallas after getting claimed off waivers from Los Angeles on Feb. 11, 2010. The 6-2, 209-pound right wing has appeared in 82 NHL games, tallying 21 points (10g, 11a) and 72 penalty minutes.

Texas Assigns Neal to Idaho, Signs Amateur Embach

The Texas Stars announced last Wednesday that the club has assigned forward Michael Neal to the Idaho Steelheads, Texas' ECHL affiliate. The team also announced it has signed Mike Embach to an ATO (amateur tryout agreement).

Neal is in his second pro season after spending the bulk of his rookie season with Idaho. Neal has played in 16 games for Texas this year, scoring three goals and totaling 12 penalty minutes. This season, the Whitby, ON native has played in 38 games for the Steelheads, scoring six goals and totaling 13 points. Last season, Neal played in 57 games for the Steelheads, posting 15 points on five goals and ten assists. The 21-year old also skated in six games for the Texas Stars without registering a point. Neal was drafted in the fifth round (#149 overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Embach turns pro after a four-year career at Ferris State University from 2007-2011. The 22-year old forward scored eight goals and totaled 18 points in 39 games with the Bulldogs. As a junior, Embach set collegiate highs with nine goals and 11 assists for 20 points in 34 games played. Over his CCHA career, 5-foot-10, 190-pounder scored 27 times and set up 31 others for a total of 58 points in 132 games. The Orland Park, IL native played with current Texas Stars forward Cody Chupp at FSU from 2007-10. Stars right wing Greg Rallo attended Ferris State University from 2002-06.

Down the Stretch....

Texas will play two of the next three games outside of the West Division. Heading into the week, the Stars have 10 games remaining on the schedule, including six at Cedar Park Center. The final seven games of the regular season will be against the West Division and over a stretch of the first ten days of April. Texas will play division rivals Chicago, Oklahoma City (2), Rockford, San Antonio, Milwaukee and Peoria down the stretch. The Stars finish their season with three games in three nights the second weekend of April. They will play in Milwaukee on Friday and at home against Oklahoma City on Saturday. Texas will wrap up its season on Sunday, April 10th at San Antonio.

The West Division continues to be clogged with less than four weeks remaining in the season. The top four teams in the division are guaranteed a spot in the 2011 Calder Cup Playoffs. There is still a chance of a divisional cross over if the fifth place team in the West has more points than the fourth place team in the North Division.

Barring a complete meltdown, Milwaukee and Houston seem like locks for a trip to the playoffs. Milwaukee is in first and has the fewest games remaining of any team in the Western Conference. The Admirals have nine of their remaining 11 games at home. Houston leads the division with 41 wins and will play five of its remaining eight games at the Toyota Center.

The rest of the division remains cloudy with three points separating third place Texas from seventh place San Antonio. One point separates third-place Texas from sixth place Peoria. The Rivermen are in a three-way tie with Oklahoma City and Chicago for the fourth and final playoff spot. San Antonio lingers two points back of the pack with 11 games remaining, including five at the AT&T Center where they are 21-12-0-2. The Rampage and Rivermen will meet four times before the season is over. Oklahoma City has nine games left on the schedule, including seven road games. The Barons are 20-10-0-3 on the road and only 16-16-2-4 at home.

Western Conference Standings as of (3-21-11)

Rallo Stays Hot, Racks Up Four Points at Manitoba

Texas right wing Greg Rallo erupted for his first AHL career hat trick at the MTS Centre on Sunday. Rallo played in 68 games for the Moose over two seasons from 2007-09, scoring eight goals and totaling 18 points. He leads the team in scoring with 47 points (24g-23a) in 70 games played this season. Ralllo also leads the team with 220 shots on net, ten power-play goals and seven game-winning goals. He is tied for the AHL league lead in game-winning goals and he ranks in the top ten for shots on goal. He has set new career-highs this season for goals and points. The 29-year old also needs three assists to surpass his 25 helpers in 2009-10 with Texas. The fifth-year pro is second all-time among Texas skaters with 139 games played and first all-time with 43 goals. Rallo is second in all-time points with 91 points.

No Joke, Teddy Bear Toss on April 1st...

As part of its participation in Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Texas Stars Foundation will host a Teddy Bear Toss on Friday, April 1st against the Chicago Wolves at 7:30 pm at Cedar Park Center.

Fans are encouraged to bring teddy bears and stuffed animals to benefit the Settlement Home for Children of Round Rock, where the stuffed animals will be given to residents in foster and adoption programs, therapeutic group homes, or residential treatment centers. The settlement home serves more than 70% of the greater Central Texas area. It is dedicated to helping children who have been abused and neglected by resolving their emotional, behavioral, and familial problems while providing quality residential care.

During Chuck A Puck in the 2nd intermission, fans can toss their stuffed animals onto the ice, where they will be gathered and distributed at the Settlement Home.

The Texas Stars Foundation will recognize Child Abuse Prevention Month, a national campaign throughout the month of April, designed to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect while creating strong communities to support children and families. Pucks N Paws Night April 3rd...

The Texas Stars will host "Pucks and Paws Night" on Sunday, April 3rd against the Rockford IceHogs at 5:00 pm at Cedar Park Center.

The Stars will have a "dog friendly" sitting area with water and relief stations nearby for all canines. The special seating area is available at a cost of $9 per person and $5 per dog. The first 2,500 fans to the game will receive a Dog Bowl, compliments of Camp Bow Wow.

No more than two dogs may accompany a fan to the game. All pet owners will be asked to provide proof of up-to-date shots, spay or neutering, and sign a waiver prior to receiving their tickets. Fans with dogs will be asked to check in at the State Farm Plaza on the Northwest side of Cedar Park Center.
