LAST WEEK ‚¬â„¢S HIGHLIGHTS

Vs. Springfield (3/16): Right wing Oscar Moller ‚¬â„¢s two goals set the pace for the Manchester Monarchs as they recorded a 4-2 victory over the Springfield Falcons on Wednesday evening at the Verizon Wireless Arena. In addition to Moller ‚¬â„¢s two goals, right wing Brandon Kozun and left wing Dwight King netted goals for the Monarchs. For Springfield, right wing Steven Goertzen and left wing Petr Kalus scored goals in the losing effort. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (18-12-5) earned his 18th victory of the season, stopping 24-of-26 shots on goal. Springfield netminder David LeNeveu (16-18-2) stopped 24-of-28 shots on net, dropping his 18th decision of the season. Manchester went 1-for-5 on the power play. Springfield was 0-for-6 with the man advantage.

Vs. Connecticut (3/18): Center Kris Newbury scored the lone goal of the game as the Manchester Monarchs fell to the Connecticut Whale by a 1-0 margin on Friday evening at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Newbury ‚¬â„¢s tally was the lone goal for Connecticut. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (18-13-5) took his 13th loss of the season, stopping 32-of-33 shots on goal. Whale netminder Dov Grumet-Morris (8-3-1) earned his eighth win and first shutout of the season with 25 saves. Manchester went 0-for-1 on the power play. Connecticut was 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

@ Bridgeport (3/19): Left wing Justin DiBenedetto scored at 1:37 of the overtime period to end the Bridgeport Sound Tigers ‚¬â„¢ comeback with a 2-1 win over the Manchester Monarchs at the Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard on Saturday night. Right wing Oscar Moller potted the Monarchs lone goal in the losing effort, with DiBenedetto and center Tony Romano chipping in goals for the Sound Tigers. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones (22-11-1) took his 11th loss of the season, stopping 25-of-27 shots on goal. Bridgeport netminder Nathan Lawson (4-4-4) earned his fourth win of the season with 38 saves on 39 shots. Manchester went 1-for-6 on the power play. Bridgeport was 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

Vs. Worcester (3/20): Right wing Benn Ferriero potted two goals, including the game-winner, as the Manchester Monarchs took a 3-2 loss against the Worcester Sharks Sunday afternoon at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Right wing Oscar Moller and center Corey Elkins lit the lamp for Manchester, with right wing Patrick Davis scoring alongside Ferriero ‚¬â„¢s two markers to round out the scoring. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (18-14-5) took his 14th loss of the season, stopping 25-of-28 shots on goal. Worcester netminder Carter Hutton (8-4-2) earned his eighth win of the season with 37 saves on 39 shots. Manchester went 1-for-6 on the power play. Worcester was 1-for-3 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Portland Pirates (43-18-5-2, 93 points) recorded all six points possible over their last three games, leap-frogging the Manchester Monarchs (41-23-3-6, 91 points) for first place in the Atlantic Division with 93 points. The Monarchs trail the Pirates by two points in the top-heavy Atlantic Division. The Monarchs have seven games remaining in the regular season while the Pirates have 12 contests on the schedule. The Connecticut Whale (36-26-2-6, 80 points) are four points ahead of the fourth place Worcester Sharks (32-26-4-8, 76 points) in the division. The Providence Bruins (31-33-3-3, 68 points) are fifth in the division with 68 points, closely followed by the sixth place Springfield Falcons (30-36-2-3, 65 points). The Bridgeport Sound Tigers (23-36-4-7, 57 points) sit in seventh place in the division with 57 points.

Manchester ‚¬â„¢s power play is ranked 14th in the AHL as they have scored 64 goals on 352 opportunities for an 18.2% conversion rate. On the penalty kill, the Monarchs are ranked fourth in the league as they have given up 46 goals when they have been down a man. They have been shorthanded 317 times this season and have an 85.5% penalty kill rating.

Manchester ‚¬â„¢s home power play unit ranks eighth overall out of 30 AHL teams, scoring 39 goals with the man advantage in 190 opportunities for a 20.5% conversion rate.

Manchester is tied for fourth overall in the AHL in shorthanded goals, with 10 goals coming on the penalty kill this season.

Left wing Bud Holloway (25-27=52) leads the Monarchs in points with 52 to his credit and goals with 25 tallies.

Holloway scored the lone goal in Saturday ‚¬â„¢s 2-1 overtime loss to the Sound Tigers.

Right wing Oscar Moller (23-27=50) ranks second on the Monarchs with 50 points.

Moller scored two goals during Wednesday ‚¬â„¢s victory over the Falcons. One of the goals, a shorthanded marker, was the fourth shorthanded goal in Manchester ‚¬â„¢s last five games.

Moller ‚¬â„¢s game-winning overtime goal on Friday, March 4 against Worcester gave him six winning tallies on the season to tie him for fifth place in the AHL.

Moller has eclipsed his previous career-high of 15 goals, as he has accumulated 23 markers during the 2010-11 campaign.

Defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov picked up an assist on Saturday against Bridgeport to bring his point total on the season to 46 points (13-33=46), good for third place on the Monarchs.

Voynov ‚¬â„¢s 46 points also place him fifth overall in the AHL among blueliners in points.

Voynov ‚¬â„¢s 13 goals are tied for the league lead among defensemen.

Voynov also leads the Monarchs squad with a plus-19 rating.

Left wing Dwight King (21-24=45), right wing Brandon Kozun (21-24=45), and center Justin Azevedo (17-28=45) are tied for fourth place on the team with 45 points.

King recorded a goal and an assist during Wednesday ‚¬â„¢s 4-2 victory over Springfield, with Kozun recording the game-winner.

Kozun ‚¬â„¢s game-winning goal against Springfield on Wednesday marked his sixth such goal of the season, placing him in a tie for fifth place in the AHL in that category.

Kozun ‚¬â„¢s 10 power play goals lead all AHL rookies.

Kozun garnered Reebok/AHL Rookie of the Month honors for February, as he recorded eight goals and seven assists for 15 points (8-7=15) in 13 games for the Monarchs during the month.

Azevedo ‚¬â„¢s seven game-winning goals are tied for the lead among AHL players.

Center Corey Elkins (18-24=42) recorded a goal in Sunday afternoon ‚¬â„¢s 3-2 loss to the Sharks. In the contest, Elkins tied the season-high watermark for shots on goal by a Monarchs player with eight.

Center Marc-Andre Cliche (14-21=35) ranks eighth on the Monarchs in points with 35.

Cliche, with 14 goals, has already eclipsed his previous career-highs of 11 goals, set in both the 2007-08 and the 2009-10 Monarchs seasons.

Center Andrei Loktionov (8-23=31) is ranked ninth on the Monarchs in scoring with 31 points.

Loktionov, recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on January 20, returned to the Monarchs line-up on Sunday, February 20. Skating in his first game at the Verizon Wireless Arena since his recent call up to the Kings, Loktionov suffered a shoulder injury on Friday, February 25 against the Sound Tigers. The second-year center had shoulder surgery in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 3 and is expected to be sidelined until training camp.

Loktionov recorded seven points (4-3=7) and two penalty minutes in 19 games with the Kings this season.

Defenseman David Kolomatis (6-19=25) collected his second two-point game of the season with two assists Sunday evening against the Sharks.

Left wing Richard Clune (8-14=22) is ranked fifth in the AHL with 218 penalty minutes.

Netminder Jeff Zatkoff has a record of 18-14-5 with a 2.69 goals-against-average and a .909 save percentage in 40 games this season.

In Friday ‚¬â„¢s 1-0 blanking of the Monarchs by the Whale, Zatkoff recorded only his first regulation loss dating back to February 20 against the Sound Tigers.

In seven games during the month of March, Zatkoff is 4-2-1 with a 1.69 goals-against-average and a .941 save percentage.

Goaltender Martin Jones has played in 37 games with the Monarchs and has collected a record of 22-11-1 with a 2.29 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage.

MONARCHS TRANSACTIONS

3/11/11: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) signed defenseman Jordan Hill to a professional tryout agreement.

2/28/11: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) acquired forward Dustin Penner from the Edmonton Oilers (NHL) in exchange for defenseman Colten Teubert, a first-round draft pick in 2011 and a conditional third-round draft pick in 2012.

2/20/11: The Los Angeles Kings (NHL) returned center Andrei Loktionov to the Manchester Monarchs (AHL).
