
Anaheim Ducks Sign Center Rick Schofield

Syracuse, NY (March 21, 2011) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Anaheim Ducks have signed center Rick Schofield to a one-year entry-level contract for the 2011-12 season. In addition, the Crunch have signed Schofield to an amateur tryout contract for the remainder of the 2010-11 season. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deals were disclosed.
Schofield, 23, appeared in 39 games for Lake Superior State (CCHA) this season and led the club in goals (17), assists (18), points (35), game-winning goals (3) and tied for the club lead in power play goals (6).
A native of Pickering, Ontario, Schofield was named Lake Superior State's Most Valuable Player in 2009-10 after leading the club in goals (15) and points (28). He was also the Lakers' nominee for the CCHA Scholar Athlete Award for the second straight year in 2009-10. In addition, his five game-winning goals in his junior season ranked second among CCHA scorers and seventh in all of NCAA Division 1 hockey.
Schofield was named the CCHA Offensive Player of the Week on Jan. 25, 2009 after scoring 5 points (3g, 2a) with three power play goals in two contests vs. Bowling Green. In his sophomore season, Schofield also led the Lakers in plus/minus (+13) and ranked second in power play goals (5). In 144 career CCHA games, Schofield earned 104 points (51g, 53a) with 79 penalty minutes. In 2007-08, he received Lake Superior State's Outstanding Freshman award and led the squad with a plus-8 rating.
The Crunch travel to Binghamton on Wednesday, March 23 to battle the Senators at 7:05 p.m. Syracuse returns home to face Albany on Friday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m. at The Oncenter War Memorial Arena.
