Texas Stars News Release
CEDAR PARK, Texas - The Texas Stars, American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars, announced today the Texas Stars Foundation has donated $22,500 to Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas (BCRC) as a result of the funds raised during the team's fifth annual Pink in the Rink Weekend presented by Cedar Park Regional Medical Center.
This year's donation to BCRC is the largest in the history of the Texas Stars Foundation's Pink in the Rink fundraisers. Last year's fourth annual Pink in the Rink Weekend raised $21,000 for BCRC, the Stars' partner in the annual weekend event. "We are proud and thankful of our Texas Stars fans for their continued support of the Pink in the Rink's cause of raising funds for breast cancer patients. The Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas do tremendous work in our community and we are excited to partner with them," stated Monica McLaughlin, Texas Stars Foundation board member.
"BCRC is so grateful for the generous partnership we have with the Texas Stars Foundation," said Ray Anne Evans, Executive Director of the BCRC. "In addition to important funding raised by the event, Pink in the Rink is a favorite among our clients and volunteers who get the chance to participate in a fun-filled activity that includes their families."
The Stars wore special pink-themed jerseys in two home games against the Rockford IceHogs on Feb. 27 and 28 at Cedar Park Center, and those game-worn jerseys were auctioned off as part of the fundraising efforts. Throughout the weekend, breast cancer patients, survivors, their families and volunteers participated in various in-game activities, such as pre-game flag presentations and intermission contests. Along with the jersey auction, additional funds were raised through the team's Chuck-a-Puck promotion, BCRC-themed t-shirt sales and portions of ticket sales to the two games.
"The fight against cancer is an issue that everyone shares a connection to, and to share this year's event with the different survivors and families was a true eye-opening experience for all of us involved," added Texas Stars Foundation board member Marie Fortunus.
Danielle Barone, Director of the Texas Stars Foundation added, "BCRC has been an important partner of ours in putting on this event each season. To provide them with a record donation this year is the result of their hard work along with our sponsors and fans to make Pink in the Rink such a success."
Next season's sixth-annual Pink in the Rink Weekend is set for Feb. 26 and 27 at Cedar Park Center.
