Monsters Fall to Rochester 5-1
April 9, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release
Four third period goals propelled the Rochester Americans (28-37-5-1) to a 5-1 win over the Lake Erie Monsters (31-28-8-4) Thursday night at Quicken Loans Arena. Tomas Vincour registered the only goal for the Monsters in the win. The Monsters are back in action when they start a two-game weekend set on the road against the Adirondack Flames Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
Colin Smith spotted Tomas Vincour with a cross-ice feed just as a Monsters power play was expiring, and Vincour ripped a one-timer from the left circle past Rochester goalie Andrey Makarov at the 12:45 mark of the opening frame to give the Monsters a 1-0 lead. Chris Bigras also assisted on Vincour's sixth goal of the season; the first professional point for Bigras, who made his professional debut for the Monsters on Tuesday night in Chicago. Rochester tied the game at 1-1 when Allan McPherson scored from the top of the goal crease at 15:13; a power play goal that left the game tied into the first intermission.
After a scoreless second period, Rochester scored four goals in the third period to secure the win. Evan Rankin's power play goal from in front of the net at 7:04 of the third period gave Rochester a 2-1 lead, and former Monster Justin Mercier scored on a one-timer off a rush from the slot at 9:25 of the third period to extend Rochester's lead to 3-1. Jayden Hart capitalized on a Monsters turnover and scored at 9:50 of the third period, and Drew Bagnall scored an empty-net goal with 4:18 left in regulation to put Rochester up 5-1.
Calvin Pickard stopped 25 of 29 shots in the Monsters net and is now 19-16-9 on the season. Makarov stopped 28 of 29 Monsters shots to improve his record to 16-17-3 on the season.
The Monsters visit Adirondack Saturday at 7:00 p.m., and Saturday's game airs live on AM 1420 'The Answer'.
