Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (33-22-3-4, 73 points) were defeated by the San Antonio Rampage (27-25-3-6, 63 Points) 5-3 on Sunday in front of 5,803 fans at the Cedar Park Center. Center Joel Perrault scored the game-winning goal for San Antonio with 2:46 left in the third period, helping the Rampage to its third win over the Stars this season. Forward Perttu Lindgren and defenseman Andrew Hutchinson each tallied two assists in Texas' 11th loss at home this year. Forwards Mathieu Beaudoin, Aaron Gagnon and Travis Morin each recorded a goal for Texas. Stars goalie Matt Climie (16-15-3) made 20 saves in the loss. Rampage goalie Justin Pogge (12-7-3) stopped 28 of 31 Texas shots in the win. The Texas Stars host the Rockford IceHogs on Friday, March 5th at 7:30 PM.
Just 1:45 into the first period, the Rampage opened the scoring for an early 1-0 lead. San Antonio defenseman Sasha Pokulok found a rebound at the left-wing circle and fired a shot past Stars goalie Todd Ford on the stickside. San Antonio scored again 49 seconds later when defenseman Shaun Heshka ripped a slapshot through the legs of Ford, extending the Rampage lead to 2-0. After two goals in three shots, Ford (4-5-1) was replaced by goalie Matt Climie with 17:26 remaining in the opening period. Rampage center Kyle Turris increased San Antonio's lead to 3-0 at 7:48, sending a shot from the right wing over Climie's left shoulder. Turris' 17th goal of the season was assisted by Sean Sullivan. Texas countered at 11:23 with a power-play tally. Center Perttu Lindgren found right wing Mathieu Beaudoin in the San Antonio slot. Beaudoin fired a shot past Rampage goalie Justin Pogge, beating him on the gloveside. The power-play goal was Beaudoin's 16th of the year. With 4:51 remaining in the first period, Texas cut San Antonio's lead down to 3-2. Center Aaron Gagnon sent a shot past Pogge after carrying the puck in on a breakaway. Dan Jancevski and Colton Scevior both assisted on Gagnon's 17th goal of the season.
After a scoreless second period and with just 2:46 remaining in the third period, San Antonio center Joel Perrault scored, extending the Rampage lead to 4-2. Perrault's goal was assisted by Kevin Porter and Mikkel Boedker. At 19:22, Stars center Travis Morin's scored from the bottom of the right-wing circle. Morin's 16th goal of the year was assisted by Andrew Hutchinson and Perttu Lindgren. Rampage center Gavin Morgan sealed a 5-3 win over Texas, scoring an empty-net goal with five seconds left in the game.
The Stars' next game will be at home on Friday, March 5th at 7:30 PM against the Rockford IceHogs. The first 3,000 fans will receive a Texas Stars wrist band. Also on Friday, Cedar Park Center is providing $2.00 domestic drafts and $1.00 hot dogs. On Saturday, March 6th, Texas will take on the Houston Aeros at 7:00 PM at Cedar Park Center. The first 2,000 children 12 and under will receive a Texas Stars youth jersey t-shirt.
