Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Toronto Marlies 5-1 on Sunday night at Copps Coliseum. Five different Bulldogs players recorded two-point nights as Hamilton won its fifth consecutive game.
The Marlies got on the scoreboard first at 14:43 of the opening period. A Bulldogs player lost the puck to Tim Brent in front of the 'Dogs net. Brent snapped a shot over the glove of Hamilton starting goaltender Curtis Sanford.
The Bulldogs tied the game at 4:32 of the second stanza. While on a power play, David Desharnais fired a shot from the middle of the ice that was stopped by Toronto starting goaltender Joey MacDonald. The rebound bounced onto the stick of Maxwell, who waited before snapping a shot into the top of the net. Hamilton took a 2-1 lead at 12:02. Brock Trotter released a shot from the right faceoff circle. MacDonald made the save but could not control the rebound, which popped out onto the stick of Mike Glumac, who fired a shot past the sprawled goaltender. P.K. Subban made the game 3-1 at 13:46 while on the power play. Trotter received the puck from Andre Benoit while positioned in the left corner. Trotter proceeded to send a pass to the front of the net, which Subban redirected through the legs of MacDonald.
Hamilton took a 4-1 lead at 1:05 of the final frame. Glumac fed a pass to Desharnais, who raced past a Marlies defender to earn a breakaway. Desharnais used a forehand-to-backhand move before depositing the puck behind MacDonald and into the back of the net. Ryan White added an empty net goal at 15:14. White chipped the puck past a Toronto player and sped down the ice before sliding the puck into the empty net.
