
Pirates Double River Rats To Complete Weekend

Portland, Maine - Derek Whitmore scored twice and J.P. Lamoureux turned aside 28 shots to lead the Portland Pirates to a 4-2 win over the Albany River rats in an American Hockey League game played today in front of 4,507 at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
Kyle Rank and Brad Larsen netted the other goals for the Pirates, who moved into first place in the Atlantic Division with the victory. Portland improved to 35-18-5-3 with the win and finished 5-2-0-1 in a 10-day stretch in which they played eight times.
Jerome Samson and Chris Terry netted third-period goals for Albany, now 32-24-3-3.
The two teams were scoreless after one. Second period goals by Rank, Larsen and Whitmore gave the Pirates a 3-0 lead after two. Samson and Terry scored in the third to make it a one-goal game before Whitmore struck for his second of the game to provide some insurance.
Albany out shot the Pirates 30-22 in the game as Lamoureux posted the win.

The Pirates return to action Friday with the first of three games on the road. Portland will travel to Bridgeport on Friday, Syracuse on Saturday and complete the trip in Buffalo with a game against the Rochester Americans on Sunday. All three games can be heard live on New Talk WLOB 95.5 and on line at portlandpirates.com beginning with the pre-game show 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
The next Pirates home game takes place Friday, March 12th when the Manchester Monarchs visit the CCCC for a 7 p.m. start.
