Teslak Shuts Out Bombers 3-0

Dayton, OH- Elmira's Colton Yellow Horn contributed three assists, Derek Couture had two goals and one assist, new comer Brendan Connolly had a two point night and Michael Teslak turned away 28 saves for his first shut out of the season to help the Jackals to a 3-0 win over the Dayton Bombers tonight at the Nutter Center in front of 4,227 in attendance. The two clubs finish off the weekend series tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.
The first period didn't feature any scoring but each goal keeper made his fare share of saves. Elmira goalkeeper Michael Teslak turned away nine shots, five of which came on a five on three penalty kill. Dayton's David Shantz was equal to all 13 shots the Jackals threw his way.
After a scoreless first period the Jackals didn't wait long to net the first goal of the game. Two minutes 10 seconds into the middle frame, Brendan Connolly netted his first goal in his first game as a pro when he took a backdoor feed from Colton Yellow Horn. Derek Couture also assisted. Couture netted one of his own at the 10:43 mark when he was set up by Yellow Horn on the power play. The Jackals held the 2-0 advantage for the remainder of the second, peppering David Shantz with 13 second period shots. Teslak remained perfect turning aside six in the second period for 14 combined.
The Jackals continued the heavy pressure in the third period with a goal from Derek Couture, his second of the night. Brendan Connolly and Colton Yellow Horn assisted on the break a way goal at the 18:04 mark. Michael Teslak recorded his first professional shutout as he turned aside all 28 Dayton shots. Dayton net minder David Shantz stopped 37 of Elmira's 40 fired on.
With the win the Jackals improve to 32-24-1-4 while the Bombers fall to 28-29-2-3.
NEXT UP: The Jackals and Bombers finish off the weekend double header tomorrow night at the Nutter Center at 7:30 p.m.
