Altoona Curve News Release
ERIE, PA - With the game tied at two in the tenth inning, Altoona saw a pair of RBI doubles from Matthew Fraizer and Ji-Hwan Bae fuel a three-run inning and went on to defeat Erie, 5-3, on Sunday afternoon at UPMC Park.
With the game tied 2-2, Fraizer led off the frame and knocked a double to the left field wall off Henry Martinez, scoring the placed runner Connor Kaiser. It was the third hit of the game for Fraizer, who finished 3-5 with an RBI. In the next at-bat, Bae lined a shot into the right-center gap to trade places with Fraizer and give Altoona a two-run lead.
Bae later scored on a sacrifice fly from Jack Suwinski to cap off a three-run tenth inning for the Curve. Cristofer Melendez allowed one unearned run in the bottom of the tenth before shutting down the SeaWolves and earning the win.
Diego Castillo hit his fourth home run as a member of the Curve in the first inning off Erie starter AJ Ladwig. Castillo would later score a run in the eighth inning on an RBI single, finishing the day 2-5 with two critical runs batted in.
Altoona starter Omar Cruz allowed one run on three hits in four innings of work. The lone run came on a Drew Ward groundout with runners on second and third in the fourth inning. Cruz struck out three batters and walked one.
Cam Alldred tossed three scoreless innings in his return to the Altoona roster after spending the week on the temporary inactive list. Shea Murray loaded the bases in the eighth before giving the ball to Melendez with two outs. Melendez walked a batter to tie the game 2-2 before retiring the side.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for Altoona, its longest of the season. The Curve are now 7-0 in extra-inning games this season. Cal Mitchell had two hits in the win, joining Bae, Castillo, and Fraizer with multi-hit performances. Altoona completes its 13-game road trip with a 6-7 record, winning two of six against the SeaWolves this week.
The Curve welcome the Somerset Patriots to town for a six-game series on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. RHP Travis MacGregor (3-5, 5.86) will start for Altoona, with RHP Hayden Wesneski (3-4, 5.40) slated for Somerset.
