Portland Sea Dogs News Release
PATRIOTS LATE INNING COMEBACK SINKS SEA DOGS - Despite an early lead after the first inning, the Portland Sea Dogs fell to the Somerset Patriots 6-2 last night. With two runners on, Hudson Potts hit a groundball to the shortstop. Edgardgo Torrealba mishandled the grounder and it bounced into centerfield allowing Cannon and Hernandez to score and Portland led, 2-0. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning, Thomas Milone hit a two-run double to right field and the Patriots took the 3-2 lead. Josh Breaux then blasted a three-run home run to centerfield, clearing the batter's eye, extending Somerset's lead 6-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning
BELLO WAS STRONG AGAIN - Brayan Bello tossed 6.0 strong innings last night allowing one run on seven hits while striking out nine. He did not walk a batter. In the month of August, Bello is 0-2 with a 4.76 ERA in three starts. He has struck out 25 batters in 17.0 innings with only five walks.
'DOGS DROP OUT OF FIRST - Portland has fallen out of first place while Somerset takes the 0.5 game lead over the Sea Dogs in the Northeast Division. In the league standings, the Akron RubberDucks remain in first place. The Patriots are now in second place while the Sea Dogs and Bowie Baysox are tied for third, 2.5 games out of first place.
AROUND THE FARM - Yairo Muñoz made Red Sox history on Saturday, extending his hit streak to an organizational record to 35 games with a single in the eighth inning, in a 5-4 Worcester Red Sox loss to the Syracuse Mets. Muñoz came to the plate in the eighth with two on and one out, still searching for his first knock of the day. And, as usual, Muñoz jumped on the first pitch, lacing a single in to right field to make it a 35-game hit streak. The 26-year-old received a standing ovation from 7,166 at Polar Park as he broke Red Sox legend Dom DiMaggio's previous record of 34 games, a mark set with Boston in 1949.
ACTIVE STREAKS - Rio Gomez has not allowed a run (earned or unearned) since July 8th. Since that time, he has appeared in ten games pitching 13.2 shutout innings allowing seven hits while walking one and striking out 13. He has limited opposing batters to a .184 average during this stretch.
ON THE MOUND - RHP Denyi Reyes will make his third start of the year this evening. His last appearance was in relief 7/11 vs Hartford and he tossed 4.0 innings allowing two runs on three hits while walking one and striking out season- high eight batters. Reyes has faced the Patriots twice (both in relief ). He has pitched 4.1 shutout innings allowing three hits and striking out four against Somerset.
