Tatum Becomes 35th Former Dragon in Majors

Dayton, Ohio-Former Dayton Dragons catcher Craig Tatum was promoted to the Major Leagues today by the Cincinnati Reds. Tatum played for the Dragons in 2005 and 2006 and becomes the 35th former Dragons player to reach the big leagues.

Tatum was signed by the Reds after being drafted in the 3rd round in 2004 out of Mississippi State University. He played in 37 games with the Dragons in 2005 and then spent all of 2006 in Dayton. He appeared in 98 games in 2006 with the Dragons, batting .277 with eight home runs and 37 runs batted in.

Tatum has spent all of 2009 with the Triple-A Louisville Bats, batting .239 with three home runs and 21 runs batted in. He has played in 64 games with Louisville.

Tatum replaces catcher Ramon Hernandez on the Reds roster. Hernandez was placed on the disabled list today with a left knee injury.

Also today, the Reds optioned former Dragons pitcher Robert Manuel to Louisville and called up pitcher Jared Burton from the same club.

Other former Dragons to make their Major League debuts this season include Manuel, pitcher Carlos Fisher (both with Cincinnati) and pitcher Jeff Stevens (with the Cubs).
