Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (July 20, 2009) - The Bees have added a fireworks show, it was announced today. The show will take place after the Bees vs. Quad Cities game on Saturday, August 8th at 6:30PM.

The Fireworks show, sponsored by J&M Displays, will be the last event of a full day at Community Field. At 11:00AM, "the Hive" will host the Opening Ceremony for the Babe Ruth Midwest Plains Region Tournament - 13 year old division. Following the ceremony at 1:00PM will be Game one of the tournament. Community Field will also host the championship games on August 11th and 12th (if necessary). The other tournament games will be played at Southeastern Community College.

The Midwest Plains Region is made up of teams from Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Colorado. Because Burlington is hosting the event, they will have a team playing in the tournament as well.

The last time a Babe Ruth tournament was in Burlington was in 1999 when Community Field hosted the 16 year old Babe Ruth World Series. Because of the World Series, the Bees had to play 13-straight road games.

"It's great for our community to have events like this," says Bees General Manager Chuck Brockett. "We're excited to have many of the teams in the tournament at the Bees game that night, enjoying minor league baseball and fireworks. For many of them, it could be their first professional game experience."
