Chiefs Finish Roadtrip with Shutout Loss

Clinton, IA -The Peoria Chiefs were shutout for the second time in four games, losing the finale of a six-game roadtrip 6-0 to the Clinton LumberKings on Monday afternoon. The loss drops the Chiefs to 10-14 on the half as they finish the roadtrip at 2-4. Aaron Shafer was perfect for the Chiefs through three innings before giving up a run in the fourth. Danny Carroll drew a lead-off walk and moved to second as Kyle Seager reached on an error by Rebel Ridling. Scott Savastano bounced into a double play to shortstop with Carroll moving to third on the play. Nate Tenbrink put the LumberKings out in front with a double to right as Savastano scored easily for a 1-0 Clinton lead. In the fifth Clinton added to their lead against Shafer. Jake Shaffer led off with a double and Shaver Hansen was hit by a pitch. Travis Howell sacrificed and Shaffer scored on a sac fly off the bat of Luis Nunez. Clinton wasn't done with just one run as Carroll flared a single over second base for a 3-0 lead. Clinton broke the game open with a three-run eighth inning against Chiefs reliever Kevin Kreier with five straight hits. Denny Almonte singled home two to make it 5-0 and Shaffer singled home another. Down 6-0 Kreier escaped the inning with a 5-4-3 double play off the bat of Nunez. The Chiefs struggled for the third time this season against Clinton starter Bobby LaFromboise. Peoria had first and second with one out in both the first and third innings but failed to score. They didn't get a runner past first base in any of the final three innings against LaFromboise who finished with four singles allowed over seven shutout innings. LaFromboise also blanked the Chiefs over eight innings on June 11 and is 2-0 against Peoria this season with 15 scoreless innings and 14 strikeouts at Alliant Energy Field. Shafer (7-6) takes the loss for the Chiefs after allowing three runs on four hits and two walks over six innings. The right-hander struck out five and also hit one. Kreier allowed three runs on five hits over two innings of work while striking out one.

Casey's General Store Player of the Game - David Macias (CF) - Macias was the only Chiefs player to reach base three times as he singled and walked twice.

Notes...DJ Fitzgerald singled in the third and has a career-high six game hit streak...He was 7-for-19 on the roadtrip...The Chiefs were shutout twice on the six-game roadtrip after going more than a month without being shutout from June 11 - July17...Peoria was outscored 42-19 while going 2-4 on the trip...Peoria is 11-12 when the opposition starts a left-handed pitcher...The Chiefs are 14-10 in day games this season...The Chiefs are now 6-2 in Monday games this season...Peoria is 13-14 in the final game of a series, 6-8 on the road...Overall the Chiefs are 10-13-4 in their 27 series this season with a 4-9-1 mark on the road...The Chiefs trail the season series with Clinton 8-2 and they are 1-6 at Alliant Energy Field...The teams will meet four times in Peoria in August and finish the regular season with a three-game set in Clinton...The entire Midwest League is off on Tuesday and the Chiefs are next in action at home on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. with free hot dogs and peanuts against Lansing...Peoria will send RH Marcus Hatley (6-6, 5.35) against Lugnuts RH Henderson Alvarez (5-5, 3.67)...The broadcast can be heard live beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m. on 96.5 FM ESPN Radio and www.peoriachiefs.com.
