Great Lakes Loons News Release

MIDLAND, MI - Parker Dalton drove in the game-winning run with one out in the ninth inning and the Great Lakes Loons walked off with a 3-2 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels in the rubber game of a three-game series on Monday night. The Loons completed a six-game homestand with a 5-1 record and took two of three from the Kernels, the best team in the Midwest League's Western Division.

With runners at second and third and one out and the Kernels' infield drawn in, Dalton ripped a ground ball to the left side that was gloved by a diving Dwayne Bailey at third base. Bailey scrambled to his feet and threw home, but Loons baserunner Matt Wallach slid home before the throw got there with the winning run. It was just the second hit in 22 second half at-bats for Dalton and was his first RBI since June 9th.

The Loons needed the ninth-inning dramatics after allowing a pair of unearned Kernels runs that tied the game in the top of the eighth inning. Wallach misplayed a hard ground ball at first base, then threw wildly past first to allow a run to score and Kernels' hitter Beau Brooks to reach second base with one out. Brooks later scored the tying run on a two-out single to the right side off Nathan Eovaldi to knot the score at 2-2.
