Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts (8-15; 34-58) enjoyed their most comfortable win of the season on Monday night at Oldsmobile Park, scoring five runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to rout the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (12-11; 46-47), 15-1.
Mike McDade and Chris Emanuele each collected four of Lansing's 21 base hits, as the Lugnuts set season highs in runs, hits, and margin of victory. McDade led the way, finishing the game 4-for-5 with four RBI while bashing one of the Lugnuts' three home runs.
Lansing starter Chad Beck (3-4) won his third straight decision, allowing just one run on four hits over 6 2/3 innings.
Wisconsin starter Trey Watten (4-9) did not fare as well in suffering the loss. Watten surrendered 11 hits and five runs, four earned, during his 4 2/3 innings.
The Lugnuts tallied once in the first inning and four times in the third to build an early 5-0 lead, while leaving 10 men on base through the first five frames.
Any thoughts of lost opportunities, however, were dispelled by the five-run rallies in the seventh and eighth. The Lugnuts sent their full nine-man starting lineup to the plate in both frames, pounding out nine hits and drawing three walks against relievers Pedro Lambertus, Liam Ohlmann, and Rigoberto Almonte.
The win gave Lansing a series victory in the three-game set, as well as five wins in six games against Wisconsin in the season series.
The Lugnuts are off on Tuesday before starting a six-game road-trip with the opener of a three-game series at Peoria on Wednesday. Right-hander Henderson Alvarez (5-5, 3.67) gets the start for Lansing, opposed by Chiefs right-hander Marcus Hatley (6-6, 5.35).
