Tarkir Called Up to Portland

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/General Manager Jared Bednar announced today that defenseman Zach Tarkir has been called up to the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League.

Tarkir, 24, is currently in his second professional season, first with South Carolina, after splitting time last year between the Trenton Devils and Lowell Devils. In 22 games with the Stingrays this season, the Fresno, CA native has 10 points (2g, 8a) and 27 penalty minutes. Tarkir is currently third in the ECHL with a +12 plus/minus rating, which also ties his for first on the team. This marks his first call-up to the AHL this season.

The Stingrays are at home tonight and tomorrow night against the Elmira Jackals from the North Division with both games beginning at 7:05 p.m. Tonight is the annual BB&T Blow the Dough competition where two couples look to win hundreds of dollars. Tomorrow night, Santa Claus is coming to the Coliseum; come get your picture taken with him before Christmas.
