Rays Host Elmira Tonight

South Carolina Stingrays News Release


North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays take on the Elmira Jackals tonight at the North Charleston Coliseum at 7:05 p.m. It's the first meeting between the two teams this season with South Carolina winning their only meeting last year 4-1.

Come out tonight as the Rays look to gain their 15th win of the season. It's the annual BB&T Blow the Dough competition during the first intermission and two lucky couples have the chance to win hundreds of dollars in cash.

2008-09 Records

South Carolina: 14-6-1-1, 30 points (2nd place, South Division)

Elmira: 12-11-0-3, 27 points (4th place, North Division)

Last time out The Stingrays, with just 13 skaters in their lineup, downed the Florida Everblades last Saturday night, 7-3. Travis Morin bagged a career-high 5 points (4g, 1a), while Ian Vigier, making his ECHL debut, turned aside 33 shots as South Carolina improved to 10-2-1 on the road this season. Elmira, meanwhile, dropped a 4-2 decision in Charlotte Wednesday night to the Checkers.

G Bryan Bridges, who dressed as back-up for two games with the Stingrays earlier this season, is on Elmira's roster ... The Rays sport the ECHL's best power-play (27.2%) ... The Stingrays defeated the Jackals, 4-1, in their only prior meeting on Oct. 28, 2007 ... Yetman is tied for sixth in the league with 14 goals, and is tied for third with 4 game-winning markers ... Martinson, who played 49 career NHL games with Detroit, Montreal and Minnesota, has won five championships as a head coach, four in the WCHL and one in the UHL ... Jackals D Joe Grimaldi skated with six teams last season, three in the ECHL (Elmira, Fresno, Gwinnett) and three in the AHL (Albany, Peoria, Rochester) ... G David Shantz, a former 2nd round pick of the Florida Panthers who played last season with the Florida Everblades, joined the Jackals from Dayton on Tuesday.
