Former Wrangler Strachan Becomes Third Las Vegas Skater to Play in NHL

LAS VEGAS, NV - The Las Vegas Wranglers® announced today that former defenseman Tyson Strachan played his first National Hockey League game on Thursday taking the ice with the St. Louis Blues.

The 24-year-old Strachan was selected to the ECHL All-Star Game as a rookie in 2007-08, but was unable to play in the game after signing on January 2nd with Peoria of the AHL where he had three points (1g-2a) and 61 penalty minutes in 34 games. He had nine points (2g-7a) and 68 penalty minutes in 25 regular season games and four assists and 12 penalty minutes in 16 Kelly Cup Playoff games while helping the Wranglers advance to the Kelly Cup Finals.

Strachan joins former Wrangler defensemen Tyler Sloan (05-06) and Adam Pardy (05-06) as the third former Las Vegas skater to play in the NHL. Former Las Vegas goalie Dany Sabourin was the first player in 2005-06 with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Sloan made his NHL debut this season with the Washington Capitals in November, while Pardy made his NHL debut in October with Calgary. Goaltender John Curry, who played for Las Vegas in 2007-08, made his NHL debut in November with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Las Vegas will host Ontario tonight at 7:30 PM. The Wranglers will host Utah on Saturday night at 7:30 PM before the holiday break. The Wranglers return from the holiday break on Friday, December 26th at 7:30 PM with the Phoenix RoadRunners.
