North Charleston, SC- The Elmira Jackals fell to the South Carolina Stingrays tonight 4-2 at the North Charleston Coliseum. With the Cincinnati Cyclones upending the Dayton Bombers 5-4, the Jackals fell into 5th place in the North Division. The Jackals look to move back into a playoff spot tomorrow night when they rematch with the Rays.

The early first period was dominated by the Stingrays scoring three goals in the first nine minutes of play. The first goal came just 3:13 into the first period when Pierre-Luc O'Brien put home a Trent Campbell rebound. The second goal was scored by Ben Boudreau at the 4:18 mark of the first. With a wild redirection off of a divider in the glass, the puck found its way to an open Boudreau who fired a shot past Mitch O'Keefe. The Stingrays extended the lead to 3-0 when Nate Kiser blasted home his second goal of the season at the 8:32 mark. With the third goal of the game Mitch O'Keefe was relieved by David Shantz. The Jackals would bring the game to 3-1 at the 15:39 mark when Wes Cunningham sent a pass to the corner where he found Steve Yetman. Yetman then put a perfect pass onto the tape of Josh Aspenlind who buried his 23 point of the season.

After being out shot 11-5 in the first period, the Jackals turned on the heat in the second out shooting South Carolina 13-4. However the Stingrays extended the lead to 4-1 at the 9:20 mark of the second when Trent Campbell put a shot off of the post and in past David Shantz. The Jackals would respond with a power play goal at the 15:54 mark of the second. Pierre-Luc Faubert and Steve Yetman set up Wes Cunningham who fired a quick wrister at the bottom of the circle to beat Michal Neuvirth to bring the game to 4-2.

With the score holding tight at 4-2 David Shantz turned aside 13 third period shots including 1:30 of a five on three penalty kill against the ECHL's top power play. The Jackals were unable to crack Stingray goalkeeper Michal Neuvirth as he and the Stingray penalty kill shut down Elmira picking up their 15th win of the year.
