Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH- The Dayton Bombers scored three goals in the final period but were unable to overtake the in-state rival Cincinnati Cyclones, falling 5-4 on Friday night.

The Cyclones opened scoring just over halfway into the first period as Jimmy Kilpatrick put the puck past Dayton's Paul Drew, who was making his third consecutive start. Later in the period Les Reaney evened the score with assists from Dan Riedel and Joe Van Culin. The Cyclones, however, would build their lead by two goals by the end of the frame. Shots were even at 12 a piece after one, but the Cyclones led 3-1.

Cincinnati took control of the game in the second period when Barret Ehgoetz and Kilpatrick scored within a five minute span to grow the lead to 5-1. The Bombers would outshoot the Cyclones in the period 16-10, but would be unable to find the back of the net.

The Cyclones' lead would begin to shrink late in the third as the Bombers picked up a trio of goals in the frame. At 10:30 Mike Looby scored with an assist from Tyler Wooddisse. Then two minutes later Danny LaPointe picked up his sixth of the season on the power play. Mike McLean and Greg Labenski earned helpers on the play. Cutting the lead to 5-4 was Dominic D'Amour, playing in his first game since returning from the AHL's Philadelphia Phantoms, at the 17 minute mark from Ryan Smyth and McLean.

Drew, who dropped his first game in regulation of the year, finished the night 24 of 29, while Cincinnati's Martin Houle went 36 of 40. The Bombers were 2 of 7 on the power play and a perfect 7 of 7 on the penalty kill.

The Bombers and Cyclones will face off again tomorrow night in Cincinnati at 7:30 p.m. Bombers fans can watch or listen live on the B2 networks by visiting www.daytonbombers.com.
