LAST TIME OUT: MOOSIC, PA (June 5, 2018) - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders struck out a season-high 18 batters in a 6-3 win over the Durham Bulls on Tuesday night at PNC Field.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre got on the board in the bottom of the second, loading the bases with no outs against Chih-Wei Hu (1-5). Mark Payton lined a base hit to right field to score a run, and a misplay by Justin Williams allowed a second tally to come home on the play. Bruce Caldwell grounded out to plate another run, and Payton was chased home on a two-out single from Tyler Wade and provide the RailRiders with a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the third against Durham reliever Andrew Kitteridge SWB struck for a run when Brandon Drury reached on an error to lead off the frame and later scored on a Billy McKinney RBI single for a 5-0 advantage.

The eight strikeouts set a season-high for Hale (2-2), and was the most he had struck out in a single game since Aug. 23, 2015 when he struck out nine New York Mets batters while pitching for the Colorado Rockies. The RailRiders responded in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run from Caldwell, who tucked a line drive inside the foul pole down the left field line for his first round-tripper of the season. Caldwell finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and his first career Triple-A home run.

Giovanny Gallegos relieved Hale and was splendid in 2.2 innings of work, striking out an incredible seven batters. The seven whiffs tied a career-high for Gallegos, set in a start with Single-A Charleston on April 5, 2014. Cody Carroll struck out three in the ninth inning to seal the victory for the RailRiders, but did allow a run to score on a Micah Johnson RBI double to bring the score to 6-3. The 18 strikeouts set not only a new season-high for SWB pitching, but was the most that Durham batters had fanned in a single game this season. The final 10 outs of the game were recorded via the strikeout, and eight of the nine batters in the Bulls lineup struck out at least once in the contest.

HOME COOKING: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre opened a ten-game, nine-day homestand Tuesday with a 6-3 W in the first of a three-game set against Durham. The Bulls lead the all-time series 80-71 and were 4-3 against the RailRiders in 2017. Louisville is in town Friday through Sunday and the longest homestand of the season concludes with four games over three days against Rochester, including a doubleheader on June 12 to make up for a rainout on May 12. The homestand begins with the RailRiders owning a 15-12 record at home on the year and were 5.0 games back of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.

KEEPING PACE: INF Brandon Drury doubled in the 7th inning Tuesday to extend his hit streak to 9-straight games which is the longest by a RailRider this season. His on-base streak is now 27 games after a walk and that double against the Bulls; every contest he has played in Triple-A this season between his rehab stint and after he was optioned on May 14. Drury's streak is the second longest in RailRiders history dating back to 2013, having eclipsed Cole Figueroa's 26-game run in 2015, Rob Refsnyder's (2015) and Donovan Solano's (2017) 25-game streaks. OF Jake Cave holds the RailRiders mark at 31 in-a-row last season.

A HALE OF A GOOD PERFORMANCE: RHP David Hale took the ball in the series opener Tuesday with excellent results. The right-hander worked 6.1 innings last Wednesday in a 3-1 win at Louisville and followed that up with 5.1 scoreless innings before allowing a two-run homer to Brandon Snyder, the final man he faced on the night. All told, Hale earned the win for the second straight start, improving to 2-2 on the season. Hale struck out eight men to set a season-high for, and it was the most he had struck out in a single game since Aug. 23, 2015 when he struck out nine New York Mets batters while pitching for the Colorado Rockies.

LONG TIME, NOT GONNA SEE: The RailRiders will not face the Indianapolis Indians again until August 13-15. After this series against Durham, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will not face the Bulls again until August 10-12 at DBAP.
