Toledo Mud Hens News Release

TOLEDO, Ohio - All of the offense came in one inning as the first place Toledo Mud Hens took down the visiting Buffalo Bisons 4-1 at Fifth Third Field.

It was Jordan Zimmermann's second rehab start with the Mud Hens. He threw 4.1 innings while striking out five, and giving up only a single run. Other than a Rowdy Tellez homerun in the fifth inning, Zimmermann looked very strong.

The Bison's starter, Chris Rowley, was giving the Hens a lot of trouble until Christin Stewart knocked a single on the first pitch of the fourth inning. Pitch number two in the inning was to Mikie Mahtook, and he sent it over the fence, giving Toledo the first, and only, lead of the ball game. The Hens were not done, as Grayson Greiner singled home a run, with another run scoring due to an error by Roemon Fields.

It did not take the Bisons long to respond. The top of the fifth is when Tellez hit his homerun. After a one out walk, Zimmermann's day was over. Caleb Thielbar took over and got out of the jam. He also credited with his third win of the year.

Over the next 2.2 innings, Thielbar shut down the Bison attack. Although, the Mud Hens offense did not score either. Victor Alcantara came out in the eighth inning and continued what Thielbar started, setting the opposition down with no resistance.

Murphy Smith came in to pitch for the Bisons in the bottom of the eighth inning to take over for Rowley. He quickly set down Dawel Lugo and Stewart, bringing up the hot bat of Mahtook, who drew a walk. That gave Jim Adduci a chance with two outs. An errant pickoff attempt moved Mahtook into scoring position, but Adduci grounded out to second to end the inning.

Johnny Barbato was tasked with closing the door in the top of the ninth inning. He had a three run lead to work with. Dwight Smith Jr. grounded out to second base for the first out. A ground out to shortstop by Danny Jansen brought Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to the plate with two down. He grounded out the third base, and Barbato secured his fifth save of the year.
