Louisville Bats News Release

I GOT 5 ON IT: The Bats extended their season-long win streak to 5 games last night with a 7-4 victory over the Pawtucket Red Sox. Tuesday night's series opener was a back-and-forth affair, with the Bats leading 3-1 and 4-3 before Pawtucket tied it up in each scenario, with Louisville ultimately pushing through with a three-run top of the ninth on a Chadwick Tromp solo home run and Nick Senzel two-run double.

AGAINST PAWTUCKET: The Bats and PawSox meet for the first time this season at McCoy Stadium. Last season, Louisville and Pawtucket each won a game in Pawtucket, before the final game of the series was postponed due to rain. The game was made up at Louisville Slugger Field as part of a doubleheader, with Pawtucket as the "home team", batting second. Overall, LOU won the season series 4-2, despite being outscored, 35-32.

BIG WIN IN THE SMALLEST STATE: With last night's 7-4 win, Louisville has its first 5-game winning streak since May 26-30, 2016 at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (5/26), at Lehigh Valley (5/27-5/29) and vs. Toledo (5/30). If the Bats win their next game, they would have their first 6-game win streak since April 24-29, 2016, when LOU won 6 straight at Norfolk (4/24-4/26) and at Durham (4/27-4/29), also the last time the Bats swept a road trip.

THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT JUNE: The Bats have started the month of June with 4 straight wins, the first time LOU has started a month with even a single win since June 2017. It's the first time LOU has won 4 games to start a month since June 2015. With a win tonight, the Bats would start a month with 5 consecutive victories for the first time since June 2014, when they won the first 5 games of that month.

HIT TO BE SQUARE: The Bats won 7-4 despite allowing 17 hits, limiting the damage by forcing the PawSox to commit 3 double plays on the night. The 17 hits are the most Louisville has surrendered in a win since June 17, 2008, when the Bats defeated Rochester 10-9 despite the Red Wings getting 18 hits.

CRUSHING CATCHERS: Both Chadwick Tromp and Tony Cruz had big games last night, with designated hitter Cruz hitting a home run in the sixth inning. Tromp had his best game in a Louisville uniform, going 3-for-4 with a double and a home run in the ninth that put the Bats ahead, also his first career Triple-A blast. Last night marked the first time that 2 players who played catcher for LOU in the same season homered in the same game since May 29, 2013 vs. Columbus, when catcher Konrad Schmidt and designated hitter Nevin Ashley each homered in a 10-7 Bats win. During the 2015 season, the Bats only had 2 home runs come from the catching position all year, both by Ramon Cabrera .

TRANSACTIONS: The Cincinnati Reds optioned to Class AAA Louisville right-hander Jackson Stephens, who started the season in the Bats' starting rotation. Stephens made 8 appearances out of the bullpen for the Reds since being recalled May 7, going 0-0 with a 3.21 ERA (5er/14.0ip) with 2 walks and 11 strikeouts. Right-hander Rafael De Paula was transferred to Class AA Pensacola in a corresponding move.

SHACKELFORD RELEASED: The Reds also released right-hander Kevin Shackelford, who was a mainstay of the Louisville bullpen over the past few years. In his Bats career, "Shack" went 4-3 with a 1.95 ERA (18er/83.0ip) and 20 saves, walking 34 and striking out 87. He made the 2017 International League All-Star team, striking out both batters he faced in the All-Star Game at Cheney Stadium last season.
