Clippers Walk off Norfolk to Secure Series

Columbus Clippers News Release
The Columbus Clippers knocked off the Norfolk Tides in game two of their series in walk off fashion tonight at Huntington Park.
Francisco Mejia came through with a RBI single in the bottom of the tenth to win it 3-2. After a victory in last night's game, tonight's win secured the best-of-three series for the Clippers.
Norfolk began the scoring in the first inning against Columbus starter Shane Bieber when Steve Wilkerson blasted a no-doubt, solo homerun to grab a 1-0 lead.
The Clippers sailed right back into the thick of things, grabbing a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second. With the bases loaded, Mejia dumped what looked to be a single into left to tie the game at 1-1, but the runner from first was thrown out at second base, crediting Mejia with a RBI fielder's choice. The next batter, Nellie Rodriguez followed that up with a RBI single, to take a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth Norfolk got to Bieber once more, tying the game at 2-2 on a Mike Yastrzemski RBI single.
Bieber's evening would be done after the fourth, allowing two runs on five hits, with two walks and six strikeouts.
The Columbus bullpen would stand tall for the remainder, allowing the offense to come through in the bottom of the tenth for the win.
Drew Maggi started the inning at second base, per the new pace of play rules, and was bunted over to third by Todd Hankins, who reached himself when the bunt was not fielded cleanly. Yandy Diaz was then walked to load the bases for Mejia, who singled with two outs to win the game, 3-2.
The Clippers and Tides will reunite for game three tomorrow afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 12:05 at Huntington Park.
