Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
RALLY RIDERS: The RailRiders led by as many as six and owned a five-run lead in the ninth. But the Bats roared back to deadlock the game and force free baseball before a Kyle Roller home run and a perfect inning from Nick Goody gave the RailRiders an 8-7 win in 11 innings last night.
SIMPSON SIR, SECTOR 7G: A day removed from his "Top Star" showing in the Triple-A All-Star Game, Roller delivered his team-best 13th homer and became the first 2015 RailRider to reach 50 RBIs. The RailRiders' first runs came off Aaron Judge's second Triple-A homer, a two-run, two-out line shot in the first inning. Including his time with Double-A Trenton, Judge paces the Yankees' farm with 14 homers and 53 RBIs on the season. Coincidentally, the last homers for both Roller and Judge had come against Louisville. Roller had not homered since June 23 versus the Bats while Judge's prior shot came against Louisville on June 25.
ALL GOODY: Goody fired a perfect 11th inning for his first Triple-A save. He jumped ahead 0-2 on all three men en route to striking out Ramon Cabrera, Chris Dominguez and Kyle Waldrop in succession (looking, looking, swinging). In 4.2 innings with SWB, Goody has allowed just two hits (.125 BAA), has issued no walks (0.43 WHIP) and has yet to allow a run while whiffing eight (15.43/9 IP).
SAVE IT: Goody has converted on five of his six save tries on the season including his Double-A tenure. However, the RailRiders' bullpen has struggled bolting down games. Caleb Cotham (1-0) blew the save last night but got the win. The team has only converted on 27 of their 44 save opportunities (.614) on the year.
THREEPEAT?: The RailRiders have won back-to-back games for the first time since sweeping Pawtucket at McCoy Stadium July 3-4. SWB has not won three straight games since a six-game win streak from June 8-13. The team has only won back-to-back games four times since that spurt, including this current run.
NEAR MISS: Last night's win saw the RailRiders avoid tying for their largest blown lead in a loss this season. They lost after leading by six at Lehigh Valley on June 30 and at Charlotte on April 30.
FOR THE RECORD: The RailRiders improved to an IL-best 6-2 in extra-innings and 15-11 in one-run games, good for the loop's third-best win percentage (.577).
ALL GOOD THINGS: Greg Bird failed to reach base for the first time in his short 10-game run with SWB. He went 0-for-5 to end an eight-game hitting streak.
DOWNARD SPIRAL: The RailRiders have dropped 13 of 19. The slide began with a 15-2 loss to Louisville on June 25 that saw a number of franchise records tied. SWB has outscored its foes 78-76 since the lopsided loss to Louisville.
GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT: After going 2-5 last homestand, the RailRiders stand eight games below .500 at PNC Field (21-29) and 13 games over on the road (28-15). The team has hit .283 on the road compared to a .262 mark at home. On the road, SWB has scored 231 runs in 43 games (5.4/game). At home, the squad has plated 182 runs in 50 games (3.6/game). The pitching has performed worse on the road (3.64 ERA) than at home (3.44 ERA). No IL team has a better road win percentage than the RailRiders (.651), who have won 21 of 29 away from Moosic.
GETTING FIGGY WITH IT: Cole Figueroa delivered his team-best 32nd multi-hit game. He has posted multiple knocks in 11 of his last 13 Triple-A games. Since an 0-for-3 effort at Norfolk on May 11 lowered his average to .184, Figueroa has slashed .387/.427/.521/.948 with those numbers ranking 1st/2nd/4th/4th in the IL.
QUALITY OVER QUANTITY: Starter Kyle Davies left in line for his team-best seventh win after posting his fourth straight quality start. He has gone 5-1 in eight games (seven starts) on the road with a 3.89 ERA. In nine nods at SWB he is 1-5 with a 4.56 ERA. In three starts this month, he is 1-0 with a 2.50 ERA.
WHAT A RELIEF: SWB used a season-high-tying six pitchers in the game for the first time since the 15-inning game versus Lehigh Valley on April 20.
