Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
PAPILLION, Neb. - Right-hander Scott Blewett tossed five strong innings and the Omaha Storm Chasers bullpen combined for four scoreless frames to lead Omaha to a Friday night win over Louisville, 5-1, at Werner Park.
Blewett (Win, 3-1) held Louisville (13-26) scoreless for the first five innings, striking out five and walking four. He exited in the sixth after allowing a solo home run to Logan Morrison and a walk to Dwight Smith Jr.
It was Blewett's third start in June with at least 5.0 innings and no more than three runs allowed. He lowered in ERA in June to 2.61 and his season ERA to 4.79.
While Blewett kept the Bats off the board, Omaha (28-11) scored two runs against right-hander Michael Mariot (Loss, 0-1) in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded and one out, third baseman Emmanuel Rivera lined a first-pitch single through the left side to bring in right-fielder Anderson Miller and shortstop Alcides Escobar. Mariot, a former Storm Chaser, pitched six innings in his first appearance at Werner Park since 2018.
The Chasers scored key insurance runs in the eighth. Leading, 2-1, Omaha loaded the bases on a single by left-fielder Kyle Isbel and walks from Rivera and first baseman Ryan O'Hearn, prompting a pitching change. Next, second baseman Gabriel Cancel lined up a two-run single up the middle on the first pitch he saw from left-hander Cionel Perez to extend the Chasers lead. Right fielder Bubba Starling capped the scoring with a pinch-hit, RBI groundout.
Right-hander Domingo Tapia threw two scoreless innings, left-hander Richard Lovelady threw a scoreless eighth inning, and right-hander Tyler Zuber retired the side in order in the ninth to complete four scoreless innings from the bullpen.
The Storm Chasers continue their six-game series with Louisville on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and coverage begins with the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show at 6:45 p.m. on 1180 The Zone.
