Durham Bulls News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - Bulls catcher Brett Sullivan put the exclamation point on a dominant victory with a three-run homer in the fifth in the 9-0 victory over the Norfolk Tides on Saturday night at Harbor Park. Starting pitcher Luis Patino (5.0 IP, 4 H, BB, 5 K) kept hitters guessing in his five shutout innings, earning his second win on the season.
Third baseman Wander Franco started the game off with a triple into the right field corner and came in to score a few pitches later after a single from CF Josh Lowe. Second baseman Esteban Quiroz continued the scoring with an RBI double in the second, scoring RF Ryan Boldt.
Franco (2-5 2 R, 3B, RBI) would continue his impressive night in the second with a single up the middle, scoring Quiroz and bringing Durham's lead up to 3-0. The RBI brought Franco's season total up to a league-leading 35. The Bulls would tack on two more runs in the second, including an RBI single off the bat of designated hitter Mike Ford, who finished with two hits in his first outing with the club.
After Sullivan's homer to right in the eighth, LF Vidal Brujan got in on the action with a solo shot to right that just snuck over the wall into the bullpen, extending Durham's lead to 9-0. The round-tripper was Brujan's second of three hits against the Tides Saturday evening.
After Patino's exit, the Durham bullpen flexed their muscles, limiting the Tides to one hit with combined efforts from Sean Poppen (2.0 IP, 3 BB, 2K) and Joey Krehbiel (2.0 IP, H, 3 K). Norfolk pitcher Kyle Bradish (1.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, K) suffered the loss.
The two teams are scheduled to complete their six-game series on Sunday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 1:05pm ET. LHP Dietrich Enns is slated to start for the Bulls, while the Tides are expected to give the ball to RHP Alex Wells.
The Bulls are scheduled to return to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday, June 29 to start a six-game series with the Gwinnett Stripers. First pitch of that game is slated for 6:35pm ET. Tickets for that game and all remaining Bulls home games are now available at durhambulls.com.
