June 19, 2021 - International League (IL)
Memphis Redbirds News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - The Memphis Redbirds could not continue the momentum from a 10-1 win on Friday night, falling 11-5 on Saturday night to the Indianapolis Indians (Triple-A affiliate, Pittsburgh Pirates) at Victory Field.
For the third straight night, Memphis (16-25) got the scoring started in the top of the first. Kramer Robertson blasted a solo shot, continuing an incredibly hot streak at the plate. The former LSU Tiger is 7-14 over his last three games with two home runs, two doubles, a triple and six runs driven in.
From there, each team took turns trading the lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Indianapolis (22-18) strung together three straight hits to surge in front, 3-1. Will Craig (solo shot) and Christian Bethancourt (a two-run homer) powered the Indians to a brief lead.
In the top of the fifth, the 'Birds bounced right back and regained the lead, 4-3. Justin Williams launched a three-run home run way over the right-field fence, his sixth hit since joining Memphis last Saturday.
Indianapolis took the lead for good in a nightmarish sixth inning for Memphis. The Indians plated six runs on five hits in the frame, highlighted by a grand slam for Hunter Owen. Indy sent 11 men to the plate in the fateful sixth inning.
The 'Birds got some consolation back via an RBI single from Lars Nootbaar in the top of the seventh. Since returning from the IL on Tuesday, the outfielder has seven hits.
Indianapolis put the game away with two runs in the bottom of the eighth.
The Memphis Redbirds are the proud Triple-A Affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. Memphis has claimed four League Championships and one Triple-A National Championship since their affiliation with St. Louis began in 1998.
