
Rally Stalled in the 9th

(Worcester, MA) - The Worcester Red Sox (27-14) got a strong starting pitching effort from Kyle Hart (3-3) on Saturday afternoon. He pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out five batters while giving up just three hits and issued four walks in the team's 6-3 win over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (19-22).
The WooSox took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning against the IronPigs as third baseman Jack Lopez hit an RBI single against Cristopher Sanchez (2-2) to score Yairo Munoz. Lopez hit an RBI single against Sanchez in the bottom of the fourth inning to score Munoz and extend Worcester's lead to 2-0.
Sanchez left the game after four innings as he allowed two runs off six hits and two walks with four strikeouts. David Paulino tossed two scoreless innings in relief and recorded three strikeouts.
Two more runs were added to Worcester's lead in the bottom of the seventh inning as Franchy Cordero hit an RBI double against Mauricio Llovera to score Jarren Duran. Michael Chavis hit a sacrifice fly against Neftali Feliz to score Cordero to give Worcester a 4-0 lead. The WooSox added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning against Jeff Singer to take a 6-0 lead.
The IronPigs did not go quietly as they scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning against Phillips Valdez to cut Worcester's lead to 6-3. Ryan Cordell hit his eighth home run of the season for the team's first run of the inning. Dalton Guthrie added an RBI single, and Austin Listi scored on a fielding error by Jeter Downs. Mickey Moniak popped out to shortstop with the bases loaded to end the game.
The IronPigs and WooSox wrap up their series on Sunday afternoon at Polar Park. First pitch is at 1:05 p.m.
