Iowa Cubs News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - The Iowa Cubs (14-24) climbed all the way back from down 5-1, winning 6-5 over the St. Paul Saints (18-22), Friday at CHS Field.

In his first start for the I-Cubs, Mike Hauschild gave Iowa 2.2 innings, allowing just one run on Tomás Telis' second solo home run of the series in the bottom of the first. Hauschild allowed just four hits while walking one and striking out three.

Iowa didn't waste any time evening the score, when Trayce Thompson led off the second inning with a solo shot. Dakota Mekkes relieved Hauschild with two outs in the third and finished the inning, but couldn't keep the game tied any longer.

Mekkes gave up two doubles and threw two wild pitches in the fourth, allowing two runs to score. The two runs were the first runs Mekkes has allowed since May 25, when he gave up two runs also to St. Paul.

JT Riddle and Damek Tomscha welcomed Ryan Meisinger to the game in the fifth with two solo shots, growing their lead to 5-1. The game held there until the seventh inning, when Tony Wolters hit his first homer of the year, a three-run shot to put the I-Cubs within one.

Wolters came through again in the ninth, with a two-out infield single to tie the game at five. Kyle Ryan got the game to extras with a scoreless ninth, and Ian Miller scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch to give Iowa the 6-5 lead.

Trevor Megill loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the inning, but recorded back-to-back strikeouts and a pop out to complete the five-run comeback for Iowa.
