Streaking Bruins Continue Winning Ways Over Monarchs

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Providence Bruins won their third straight game as they edged the Manchester Monarchs 3-2 in front of 7,741 fans at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday night.
Manchester (21-9-1-3, 46 points) is in second place in the Atlantic Division. Providence (18-13-1-1, 38 points) is in fourth place in the Atlantic Division.
Former Monarchs left wing Eric Healey scored his team leading 17th goal of the season at 15:32 of the first period. Defenseman Jonathan Sigalet sent a shot in on Monarchs goaltender Barry Brust. Healey redirected the shot past Brust to put the Bruins on the board. Right wing Eric Nickulas also assisted on the first goal of the game.
At 15:05 of the second period, center Greg Hogeboom collected his second of the season. Left wing Jeff Tambellini sent the puck to a streaking Hogeboom who fired a one-timer past Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas to tie the game at 1-1. Defenseman Brad Fast assisted on the play by sending the puck deep into the Bruins zone.
Right wing Brad Smyth gave the Monarchs a 2-1 lead at 18:05 of the middle frame. Six-seconds into a power play, defenseman Eric Werner sent a laser in on Thomas. The rebound from Werner's shot popped out to Smyth who chipped in his 15th of the season. Center Yanick Lehoux also assisted on the power play goal.
In his first game since being sent down from the Boston Bruins, Nickulas sent a quick shot from the right wing circle past Brust to tie the game at 2-2. Healey and defenseman Michael Schutte assisted on Nickulas' sixth goal of the season at 9:35 of the third period.
Shortly after the Monarchs finished killing a penalty, center Pascal Pelletier flipped in a rebound from Schutte's initial shot to give the Bruins a 3-2 victory. Center Ben Walter also assisted on the game-winning goal at 12:47 of the final frame.
Brust (6-2-1) took his second loss of the season stopping 27 shots. Thomas (14-10-0) earned his 14th win of the season with 15 saves.
Manchester went 1-for-4 on the power play. Providence was 0-for-6 with the man advantage.
Manchester hosts the Hartford Wolf Pack for the final time at the Verizon Wireless Arena this season at 7:35 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2006. The first 5,000 fans to Saturday's game will receive a Dustin Brown Bobblehead.
