
Smith named Bulldogs' captain

The Hamilton Bulldogs announced today that defenseman Dan Smith has been named the team's captain. The native of Fernie, B.C., who is in his first season with the Bulldogs, is the eighth team captain in Bulldogs' history.
Smith, 29, has played in 454 career AHL games, with five different teams, including the Hershey Bears, Springfield Falcons, Toronto Roadrunners, Edmonton Road Runners and Hamilton Bulldogs. Over his AHL career, Smith has totalled 102 points (25 goals, 77 assists) and 424 penalty minutes.
In 28 games with the Bulldogs this season, he has recorded seven assists and 19 penalty minutes. The 6'0", 200-pound blueliner has played in seven games for the Edmonton Oilers this season, going scoreless while collecting seven penalty minutes. Originally selected by the Colorado Avalanche in the 7th round, 181st overall, in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, Smith has skated in 22 career NHL contests with Colorado and Edmonton, recording 16 penalty minutes.
Former Hamilton Bulldogs captains include Terran Sandwith, Jeff Daw, Rob Murray, Scott Ferguson, Alain Nasreddine, Benoit Gratton, and Jason Ward.
The Bulldogs next action takes place tonight, Friday, January 6, when the Peoria Rivermen make their only visit of the season to Copps Coliseum. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
