
Columbus Recalls Goertzen and Simon

Syracuse, NY (January 6, 2006) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled right wing Steven Goertzen and center Ben Simon and reassigned center Geoff Platt to Syracuse. The Crunch also announced that they have recalled center Brian Gornick from Dayton (ECHL).
Goertzen, 21, has appeared in 15 games with Syracuse this season, recording 3 goals, 2 assists and 24 penalty minutes. In 24 games with Columbus this season, Goertzen has recorded 24 penalty minutes. In 80 career AHL games, all with Syracuse, Goertzen has registered 5 goals, 12 assists and 128 penalty minutes. A native of Stony Plain, Alberta, Goertzen was selected by Columbus in the seventh round, 225th overall, in the 2002 Entry Draft.
Simon, 27, has appeared in 31 games with Syracuse this season, recording 10 goals, 10 assists and 24 penalty minutes. Simon has appeared in three games with Columbus this season without recording a point. In 245 career AHL games with Chicago, Milwaukee and Syracuse, Simon has tallied 48 goals, 63 assists and 222 penalty minutes. A native of Shaker Heights, Ohio, Simon was signed as a free agent by Columbus on August 11, 2005.
Platt, 20, made his NHL debut December 1 @ St. Louis. In 15 games with Columbus this season, Platt tallied 5 assists and 16 penalty minutes. In 21 games with Syracuse this season, Platt has recorded 15 goals, 9 assists and 12 penalty minutes. A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Platt was signed as a free agent by Columbus on November 23.
Gornick, 25, has appeared in 23 games with Dayton this season, registering 10 goals, 16 assists and 23 penalty minutes. In six games with Syracuse earlier this season, Gornick recorded one goal and two penalty minutes. A native of St. Paul, Minnesota, Gornick was signed by Syracuse on August 24, 2005.
