Bridgeport picks up a wild shootout victory 4-3 Friday night at the Arena at Harbor Yard, tying the game with just one second remaining to force OT.
HERSHEY would strike first with a goal from Jonas Johansson at the 10:00 minute mark of the first period from Owen Fussey and Dave Steckel. After a 9-1 shot run to begin the game, Bridgeport would begin to chip away and finally broke through with a goal at 17:08 from defenseman Bruno Gervais. The BEARS outshot the Tigers 14-9 in the first, but were tied at one after twenty minutes.
In the third period, former BEARS forward Travis Brigley broke the 1-1 deadlock with his seventh goal of the season at 12:16 of the third. Joey Tenute then scored two goals late in the third period, both from Tomas Fleischman and Johansson to give the BEARS the lead 3-2. Sean Bergenheim then took center stage for Bridgeport, scoring a goal with 1.0 seconds remaining to force overtime. The Sound Tigers then won the game in the shootout in four rounds.
The BEARS will face the Binghamton Senators Saturday night in the second game of the four-game road trip. Face-off is set for 7:05 p.m., with air-time on the BEARS radio network set for 6:45 p.m.
