August 22, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Toledo Walleye News Release
(Toledo, Ohio) The Toledo Storm, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks, announced today that Ed Burkholder would continue as Toledo's Head Scout for the 2006-07 season.
"Ed Burkholder has been such an important part of the success here in Toledo through his work behind the scenes," said Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Nick Vitucci. "Ed has used numerous trips to Toledo to see the caliber of this league. Ed knows what I am looking for, and is able to implement that in his day-to-day scouting. By working together with Ed for six years I can get a feel of players while not actually seeing them due to scheduling conflicts."
Burkholder, a Welland, Ontario native, will make 06-07 his fourth season as a scout for the Toledo Storm. Ed has previous scouting experience in the ECHL with the now-defunct Greenville Grrrowl when they won the Kelly Cup Championship as well as a stint with the San Angelo Outlaws of the Western Professional Hockey League. Ed also spent four seasons as a bench boss for the Welland Midget AAA team. He also is a regular guest on TSN's (The Sports Network) "Off The Record" with Michael Landsberg.
"I feel very fortunate to be a part of an organization with such an overall commitment for the betterment of the players," Burkholder said. "Coach Vitucci is not only dedicated to winning, he is committed to the development of his players and doing what it takes to get them to the next level. With the way the roster is shaping up, this year will prove to be one of the most exciting seasons for the people of Toledo."
Ed is a graduate of Niagara College and played three seasons with the Thorold Jr B. Blackhawks. Ed currently resides in Welland, Ontario with his wife Lina of 16 years, Murray his 13-year-old son, and 5-year-old daughter Emily.
The 16th Season of Toledo Storm Hockey debuts on October 20th at the Toledo
