August 22, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO, FL - Florida Everblades President & General Manager Craig Brush, along with Head Coach Gerry Fleming announced today that the team has re-signed long time Everblades forward Reggie Berg to a contract for the 2006-07 season.

Berg is coming off his sixth season in an Everblades uniform during which he tallied 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists) in 28 regular season games. The 29-year-old native of Anoka, Minnesota also chipped in three goals and three assists during six Kelly Cup Playoff games in 2006.

The former seventh round draft pick by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1996 became the Everblades all-time leading goal scorer last season with his 112th career goal in an Everblades uniform on February 28, 2006 against the South Carolina Stingrays. Berg heads into his seventh season as an Everblade with 254 points (116g, 138a) and 284 penalty minutes in 222 games as a 'Blade.

"Bringing Reggie back to this team was a big goal of ours this off-season." Fleming said. "Not only is Reggie a strong force on the ice, but off the ice, his experience brings solid leadership in the locker room. In this league, it's hard to find players that bring the intangibles that Reggie brings to this team, and that is why we worked so hard to come to a deal for this season."

In 2006-07 Berg will have the chance to become the organization's all-time leader in several categories. The former University of Minnesota product needs 57 points, four power play goals, one short handed goal, six game winning goals and 66 shots to become the all-time Everblades leader in each of those categories.

In addition to his time with Florida, Berg has seen playing time in the American & International Hockey Leagues with Orlando, Cincinnati and Lowell. During his professional career, Berg has skated in 286 regular season games, scoring 126 goals and tallying 153 assists. Berg's top professional season came in 2000-01 when he combined to score 61 points in 66 games between the Everblades, Cincinnati (IHL) and Lowell (AHL).

Prior to turning pro in the 1999-00 season, Berg spent four seasons playing at the University of Minnesota where he collected 158 points (74g, 84a) in 160 games with the Golden Gophers.

Berg is the ninth player signed by the Everblades for the 2006-07 season, joining Phil Aucoin, Ryan Brindley, Steve Czech, Ernie Hartlieb, Jon Jankus, Chris Lee, Andrew Martens and Brent McDonald.

The Florida Everblades, proud affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes and the Florida Panthers, begin the 2006-07 season on Friday, October 20 when they host the Texas Wildcatters at 7:30 p.m. at Germain Arena.
