Condors once again open house for fans

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors Professional Hockey Club announced that their annual Open House and Family Day has been scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 8 at the Bakersfield Ice Sports Center. The Condors have also scheduled two preseason games, a home-and-home series with the Long Beach Ice Dogs Oct. 13 and Oct. 14.

This marks the third straight year that the Open House and Family Day will take place at the Bakersfield Ice Sports Center, located behind Rabobank Arena at 1325 Q St., between Truxtun Avenue and California Avenue. The event will run from Noon to 3pm and is once again sponsored by KGET-TV 17. Admission is free with the donation of two-or-more canned food items, which will benefit the Bakersfield Homeless Shelter.

Condors fans will have their first chance to meet and greet the 2006-07 Condors, watch a team practice and skate with the players. Season ticket holders will also be able to pick up their ticket books during the event.

The team will hold a full work-out from Noon to 1:15pm followed by formal on-ice player introductions from 1:15pm to 1:30pm. Fans are invited to stay, as the Ice Sports Center will then hold a free public skating session from 1:45pm to 2:45pm where fans can take the ice with the Condors players. Fans are encouraged to bring their own skates or rent them for a $3 fee (based on availability).

"The Open House and Family Day is always an exciting and anticipated event for the fans, players and staff with the regular season right around the corner," President Matthew Riley said. "We're once again happy to hold the event at the Ice Center. It's such a great facility and intimate setting for the fans, who can get up close and personal with the team."

As part of the annual event, the Condors are once again asking that fans help in a charity canned food drive. An "admission price" of two non- perishable canned food items is being asked, which will collected and then distributed to the Bakersfield Homeless Shelter. During the four-year history of the event, more than 10,000 pounds of goods has been collected, including a record 7,000 pounds last year.

Bakersfield will take-on their Pacific Division rival Ice Dogs in a home-and-home preseason series Friday, Oct. 13 in Lakewood, Calif. and Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Rabobank Arena. The Condors eliminated Long Beach in the division semi-finals last season for their first-ever playoff series win.

The Oct. 13 match will be a 7:30pm. start at the Glacial Gardens, the Ice Dogs' practice facility. Glacial Gardens is located at 3975 Pixie Ave., Lakewood, CA. 90712. Tickets can be purchased on a first-come-first serve basis (on game-day only) for $5 The Oct. 14 home game at Rabobank Arena will begin at 7pm.
