(Toledo, OH) The Toledo Storm (35-28-2) defeated the Reading Royals (30-30-7) 3-2 in overtime tonight in front of 3,692 at the Toledo Sports Arena.
Like last night, Toledo would jump into the lead on the Royals. The first goal came from Dinos Stamoulis (Dan Watson, Mike Walsh) at 14:10of the first period when his shot caressed off a Reading defenseman and into the back of the net. It was the first professional goal for Stamoulis. The Storm would make it 2-0 at 4:55 of the second when Nick Parillo (Stamoulis, Jeff Attard) collected a shorthanded goal for his 13th goal of the year. The puck hopped off a dasher and slid in front for Parillo to bury.
For a second straight night, the Royals would add a pair of goals in the third period. John Snowden capitalized on a 5 on 3 advantage at 2:11 of the third to cut the Storm lead to 1. At 6:28 the Royals would tie the game when Jon Francisco nailed his 8th goal of the year, also a power play goal. Jason Maleyko won the game for Toledo with just 21 seconds left in the overtime. Chris Blight was taken down in the corner, but slid a pass over to Andrew Martin who in turn fed Maleyko for his 5th goal of the season.
Reading finished the game 2 for 8 on the power play, while Toledo was 0 for 5. Ervins Mustukovs made 37 saves for the win, and Jeff Pietrasiak finished the game with 48 stops. The 51 Storm shots marked the fifth time this season that Toledo has topped the 50 shot plateau.
