Tejchma, Power Play Lead Falcons to 4-3 Win in Phoenix

March 24, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release

Phoenix, Ariz. - Jason Tejchma scored two goals, and the Falcons tied a season high with four power-play goals in a 4-3 win over the Phoenix RoadRunners on Saturday in front of 6,304 fans at US Airways Center.

With the win, the Falcons remain tied with Stockton for fifth place in the National Conference standings, three points behind fourth-place Idaho.

Phoenix struck first, scoring a power-play goal 12:40 into the opening period. Alexander Rouleau took a long shot from the blue line that was stopped by Scott Stirling, but the rebound rolled to Brian Yandle in the right-wing circle, and his shot back to the front of the net eluded Stirling for his third goal of the season. The power-play goal ended the Falcons' streak of consecutive penalty kills at 17.

Fresno answered with a power-play goal of its own at 17:21. Brady Leisenring, who rejoined the Falcons earlier in the day from his loan to AHL Worcester, snapped a shot past Cody Rudkowsky from the left-wing circle for his 10th goal of the season.

The RoadRunners scored twice in the opening 6:43 of the second period, getting goals from Lance Monych and Chanse Fitzpatrick, to take a 3-1 lead.

But, the Falcons ripped off three consecutive power-play goals, taking a 4-3 lead into the final 20 minutes of play.

Tejchma pulled Fresno within one at 9:15, redirecting a Brian McConnell pass past Rudkowsky for his fourth goal of the season, and extending his scoring streak to six games.

Tejchma struck again at 14:24, taking a pass from Brett Hammond in the left-wing circle, and roofing a shot past Rudkowsky on the near post.

Fresno scored its fourth power-play goal at 17:22 as Rob McFeeters blasted a shot past Rudkowsky from the left-wing circle for his 14th of the year.

Phoenix had a chance to tie the score early in the third period as the RoadRunners had a two-man advantage for 1:35, but the Falcon penalty killers came up with a big effort and killed off the opportunity.

Stirling stopped all 10 shots he faced in the third period, and 33 overall on the night, to record his 15th win of the season.

Fresno concludes its three-game road trip on Tuesday, taking on the Stockton Thunder at 7:00 p.m. Catch all of the action on 1550 and 96.1 Sporting News Radio starting with the Port of Subs Pre-Game Show at 6:45.
