Grizzlies Fall 7-4 To Stockton

West Valley City, Utah - The Stockton Thunder defeated the Utah Grizzlies 7-4 Saturday night at the E-Center as they added a late empty-net goal.

Stockton scored three goals in a two-minute-span from 5:23-7:23 of the first period to take a 3-0 lead and a 4-1 advantage after one period.

Utah took advantages of their first two power-plays with Danny Stewart scoring the first one at 16:31 of the first period to make the score 3-1. Utah made the score 4-2 when Jake Riddle tallied his fourth of the season at 7:58 of the second.

Utah got within one at 12:34 of the second when D.J. Jelitto scored his 14th of the year. That was the score as the game went to the third period.

In the third, Stockton added a 5-on-3 goal and an even-strength tally to build a 6-3 lead. Luciano Aquino made it 6-4 at 17:29 on an assist from D.J. Jelitto. Stockton added a late-empty netter to make the final 7-4.

Ben Gray relieved Rob McVicar in goal for Utah to start the second period and stopped 23 of 25 shots.

With Victoria and Phoenix both losing on Saturday, the Grizzlies complete the weekend still four points out of a playoff spot with six games left to play.

The Grizzlies return to action Wednesday, Friday and Saturday hosting Victoria. Face-offs all three nights are scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
