Augusta Lynx News Release
Pensacola, FL - Mike Erickson notched a pair of second period markers to pace the Lynx offense in a 5-4 shootout win on the road over the Pensacola Ice Pilots Saturday night.
Pensacola opened up an early 1-0 lead but the Lynx would respond with a pair of special teams markers for a 2-1 edge by the first intermission.
Louis Goulet would convert a shorthanded two-on-one with Ryan Lang at 12:38 for his 26th goal of the season, and then Goulet would set up Aaron Slattengren for a five-on-three power play marker at 16:33. Garett Bembridge also collected a helper on the goal, Slattengren's 16th of the season.
Sergei Ogorodnikov and Dan Knapp scored goals just 1:35 apart to open up a 3-2 Ice Pilots lead early in the second period.
Augusta clawed back on Erickson's markers, the first at 8:53 from Nathan Saunders and the second coming at 19:50, a power play goal that put the Lynx up 4-3 after 40 minutes of play.
Ogorodnikov's second of the night at 5:47 tied the game and served as the lone goal of the final frame, pushing the contest past regulation tied at 4-4.
In overtime both teams had chances at the win but both would come up short, setting up a shootout.
Augusta received goals from Dirk Southern, Aaron Slattengren, and Garett Bembridge while Nathan Saunders turned aside three of five shooters to give the Lynx the win and two critical points in the chase for the last two playoff spots in the ECHL's South Division. With the win Augusta vaults ahead of idle South Carolina with 77 points, while the Stingrays have 76 and Checkers 73. Charlotte will visit the Stingrays in Charleston tomorrow while Augusta will rest.
